Probably 1 more season before we break out. I think this season will be at least respectable and improvement across the board. I'm an optimistic person though.
I haven't seen him do anything with the talent he has brought in. His best years so far have been from the inherited kids from Kirk (not comparing him to Kirk...just saying the talent was already in-house). One and done in my opinion. Guy has really only found one impact player so far....Sykes. He has found a way to get us on sanctions. Everybody has just been a cog in the machine. I think the talent we have right now is better than it has been in the last 5 years but a new guy could take that talent to the next level (and bring in even better recruits).
Kirk couldn't win with his talent, so you're saying if Donnie has talent we will win...good enough for me. He already got wins against a number #5 ranked and #17 ranked team. 2x wins over Miami and 1 against Florida. Kirk never really had a signature win.
The players seem to like him and he is recruiting well. Let's see how we play as our guards get experience. We definitely can rotate more talent on the court this year. I'm predicting .500 this season and next season a bubble team.
and as far as bringing in "better recruits"....do you see the offers on some of our players? They are turning down ACC, Big East, etc to play for us. You want 4*/5* star without cheating with a program that has no real history of winning. Kirk was barely over .500 and that is playing against A-Sun teams for most of that record. Let's stop the Kirk was such a legend stuff. I'm one that really supports the hoops teams and we better not even think about firing Donnie without giving him a fair shot with this current roster.

I think Donnie will be on the hot seat if he doesn't show significant improvement this year. Like over .500 in conference.
.500 for the season to 2 over .500 is probably realistic. This isn't the old c-Usa. We need to show massive improvement. Hopefully no injuries.
We gave Speraw 17 years and didn't fire him after losing to a non scholarship d3 school. Giving him at least 2 full years to coach the current recruiting batch is in reason.

Donnie (us-UCF) need this win Wednesday night. I know the first game against Davidson was the first away game and they had a lot of returning starters, BUT, Donnie has to show SIGNIFICANT improvement this year.
We lost by 5 so even if you factor in the 3 free throws they were significant but not the only factor. I miss the personality that the team used to have. Maybe Tacko will bring that back.
True...as some of the bigs for UCF (more likely to be fouled), did not shoot well...as McBride, Blair and S Davis shot 6-11.
Adonys was the only shocker (2-4) as he is probably the best FT shooter on the team (along with AJ)....while Walker and BJ are pretty good to ok FT shooters didn't get 1 shot from the line (BJ obviously didn't play).
Hopefully UCF can get UCI's bigs in early foul trouble...get players like Adonys and AJ Davis (he was limited to just 3-3 because of foul trouble...played just 12 mins so hopefully he will have more than 3 attempts in the game tonight.
Meanwhile, Davidson's all-world guard and leading scorer for them, Gibbs...got to the line 10 times...made 9.

I agree. Why can't Donnie improve the players in this area? Opposing teams will just hack a shack us if they know we can't hit free throws. Hitting free throws is the difference between a good team and a great team
Well, here we are near the end of the season. I haven't seen too many people backing D-Jones and there has been multiple "fire Donnie Jones" posts/threads....
I'm pretty much done with UCF basketball. I've got some ticket vouchers I'm not using as it is that bad. Why do I want to put forth the effort to attend games when I see a team that shows no effort and is regressing. (similar to 2015 UCF football, I stopped going to games)
I'm hoping AD Danny White does the right thing and gets us some fresh talent in at Coach. It is one thing if the games were close and we had a chance. But, I'm tired of watching games where we are down by double digits with no chance. I see simple basketball 101 mistakes constantly with the players. That goes down to coaching.
Last year's season I personally said I would give him one more year to show improvement. I don't see it this year. Its almost like UCF basketball has regressed. Pull the trigger and get a new coach. We have seen what it is like with Scott Frost and the new energy in the football side (still gotta win though).
AD Danny White's brother is coach at UF. His dad is AD at Duke. I think he has some contacts to find a viable coach that can get us to the next level...hell...just competitive would be ok...at least "hope" that we have a chance to win. I don't even want to turn the TV on anymore so see it.... I haven't seen any improvements this year, just regression...

DJ is a really good guy and family man. I do feel bad for him and his eventuality, but UCF isn't a charity. He's not getting it done and he knows it. He probably fits better in a lower division type school, such as Marshall.
