I just received an e mail from the AD and it seems he does not plan to change baseball coach. I think he will regret that.

I really thought DJ would have received another year, but once Dawkins was fired that door shut.

Maybe he doesn't want to shake things up all at once. Firing everyone all at once does send a bad vibe as well.

Maybe with the budget, buying out another contract would be a major strain on our resources too. Rooney needs to have a ncaa caliber team next season, imo. It isn't cool that little FAU now has a better baseball program.

If we put together a top 25 team, maybe we can start averaging 3k a game. Our enrollment, alumni base, etc has really grown since we had the last great team (2000?) with Pope and Arnold.

Why does Rooney get a pass? Bad idea.

Maybe not a pass but timing. We have no idea where Rooney is in his current contract. He needs to have a ncaa caliber team next year. Going multiple years without going to the NCAAs isn't acceptable for a team in our region.

Yes. Budget and the "fire everyone" mentality. If you start showing that you have a quick trigger finger, you might get a bad reputation and turnoff potential coaching candidates. How
Many coaches have been fired at UCF in the past several months??? I bet it's
at the top in the NCAA. It's just that Rooney's number is coming up last.

I don't think waiting another year to fire a guy is going to make any difference. Instead of them saying "He's fired them all in his first year, they'll say he did it in his first 2 years. No big difference. Plus, he didn't fire the football coach just didn't hire the interim coach which everyone knew was going to happen, but again no big difference in perception.

Plus, do we really want a coach who's afraid he's going to get fired if he can't field a winning team? Seems like that's the definition of a coach- win. I hope we do scare away potential crap coach candidates.

It's baseball. It's not a make or break sport for the athletics program. Hire, fire or maintain thd current staff for another year. It's tha AD's choice and so far on paper his moves look pretty good.

Us waiting for Rooney to put together a baseball team worthy of UCF's advantages over the competition:

maybe he will be a little more patient w Rooney bc it's a non Revenue sport.

Football and Basketball winning is more important for the bottom line

While I think you are right, Tennis is not a revenue sport and he cleaned house. Funny that Rooney is the one guy that I think everybodyy thought would be gone.

He used his "car salesman" skills to convince the AD that next year will be better. TR talks a good game but when it comes to actually running a team he falls short. Too much micro-management and I can do everything better than everyone else mentality. Too bad for us UCF baseball fans. As small as that number may be.

I think tennis is different due to the new USTA center they are building in Lake Nona and the fact that he got one of the best coaches/minds in US Tennis to head our program...way too much to pass up.

Coastal Carolina takes home the title. Think UCF can't do that?? It's cool, I'm sure we're on the road to get there.

When I grumbled to White at one of our last regular-season games, he talked about the possibility of us getting hot in the tournament. I was hoping he was just being professional, but apparently not. As per Doc's post, maybe he realizes we can't make the financial commitment to baseball right now with all the money UCFAA is spending elsewhere. Hopefully our two "revenue sports" can start throwing off some cash soon to allow investment in baseball next. Still tough on a G5 budget.

Coastal Carolina Boosters/Sponsors helped raise funds for their new $15.2 Million Stadium.

Plans were introduced/approved in Jan 2012...team plays off-campus in 2013-2014 (in a beautiful minor league park), Coastal Carolina opens their beautiful ballpark in 2015...Team wins National Championship in 2016.

Here's a photo tour of their beautiful ballpark.

I don't understand why we can't build a solid baseball stadium. Stadiums are relatively cheap. Unlike a basketball arena, you don't have to build it all at once. Let's finish the 3rd base side, the seats behind home plate, covering for all of the fans and of course a craft beer garden.

Who has $15.2 Million to pony up for a new baseball stadium? Let's get it done. I want to win the National Championship by 2019.

Just priorities. We have new, more expensive football, basketball (men and women), tennis coaches and staff. We are going to charter flight basketball. We are upgrading BHNS with sound and video etc.. White is doing what he should be doing which is focusing on the revenue sports that matter when/if conference realignment ever happens again. As much as some people love baseball, it just does not factor much in looking at UCF for a new conference. UCF will not be judged much on baseball. My guess is that UCF is really stretching right now and investing where it thinks it will matter most.

I also think that 90% of UCF fans don't really care much about baseball. They will support when they are winning, but don't lose any sleep over a bad season. Would it be nice to have a good program? yes. Is it a priority? No.

In defense of investing in Tennis before Baseball, we had a rare opportunity to transform the Tennis program into national contenders overnight. Without the new USTA center we wouldn't have been able to poach a world class coach from Oklahoma. We're a Tennis school now.

That did not take long. This board is so predictable.

The fact that it's predictable means we all thought about it - if Coastal Carolina can, why hasn't UCF been able to even sniff a run like that? If we're all thinking it, why wouldn't we discuss it? In the meantime anyone is free to lead us in a discussion of the unpredictable and enlightening theorems we should be posting on a fan message board but aren't.

I learned a lot from this predictable thread. I learned that little Coastal Carolina with an enrollment of less than 10,000 students made a significant investment in their baseball facilities that paid immediate dividends. We probably don't have the funds to make a similar investment at this time and that's a shame. We're focusing on building up football and basketball and a too-good-to-pass-up tennis opportunity. We may even be a tennis school soon (yay!). Our baseball team, despite playing the major men's sport in which a national title would be most probably within reach, will likely continue to be mired in many years of mediocrity until more funds are available to hire a legitimate coaching staff and build a modern facility. While we wait eagerly for our phone call from the P5 and/or for the alumni tree to start crapping money, we should probably at least build a nice craft beer garden in our baseball stadium so that the baseball fans can drink away the continued disappointing developments on the field. Good luck, Rooney!

Or you could admit that having 1,000,000 students, a beer garden, water park, a bikini contest every weekend does not equate to squat. It does not mean we "should" have anything.. You still have to have the right personnel and players and a little luck. In baseball it is much more even playing field than bigger sports because the costs are lower. Rooney is obviously not the right guy, but it has nothing to do with us being more worthy than Coastal Carolina which essentially the same argument. Just like everything Coastal Carolina earned their spot.

Mediocrity in baseball with great improvement in football and/or basketball is a fair trade off if it comes down to it.
