I'm convinced we HAD to lose the games we did, including that awful loss to Navy, otherwise this UCF UF bowl game doesn't happen. Hear me out.
At the of the regular season, a 9-3 or more-wins season does not get us the Gaytors in this bowl game. It gives us Missouri, Iowa St or some other school that would result in virtually no interest whether we win the game or not. No way the Gaytors play us if we wrapped up a solid, 9-3 season and looked good.
However, a struggling 8-4, losing-to-0-3 Navy team was the perfect excuse for the Gaytors to accept the bowl game and shut us up for good. Trying to pick us off when we're weak. It was smart, I would have done the same thing in their shoes. It backfired, and backfired BIG time.
I'd argue this bowl game win against UF in a sold out Florida, Raymond James stadium means SO MUCH more to UCF than finishing 10-3, 11-2, 12-1.
Could not be happier with ending the season 9-4.
