Fear the Walking Dead

Somewhat. Didn't seem terrible. Probably give another watch or two. True Detective turned me off to new shows lately.

I recorded it and will give it a try; most reviews have been really positive so far.

Been watching The Strain Season 2 which has turned into a really good show.

Also just finished Season 3 of Vikings which IMO is one of the best shows on TV right now.

It was a little disappointing. I will give it a few more episodes, but it seems like they are really trying to develop the characters and the backstory to how it all started. I have a feeling once it picks up it will be just as good as the original.

Vikings kicks ass. Blood Eagle!

Definitely a set up episode. I think it'll be pretty good and will watch at least the next couple of episodes to see how it goes but I think I'll be hooked once the action picks up.

Correct. Why else would they take 90 minutes to tell a 20-minute story?

Watched it last night- awesome show. AMC has another winner.

Also, it's clear that the intent of this show is way different than TWD. This show is all about the paranoia and fear that comes from the origins of the "infected" (as they'll call them). Less actual zombies, more focus on how society breaks down and crumbles.

I thought they did a perfect job setting the stage in Ep1.

Thinking back to vikings, that has to be one of the most graphic shows on TV. I cant believe they get away with some of that stuff. Season 4 should be really interesting. Not sure where they plan to go with it.

It would have been awful to do a show on early middle ages Nordic culture without including some hardcore violence and lots of blood. Especially during the periods when the "Vikings" raided down into the various Kingdoms in modern day England and France.

The scene where the spiked "log" impales the Nordic fighters was insane.

HBO needs to pick it up because they're getting beat by cable networks.

The Strain, TWD, FTWD, Fargo, American Horror Story, etc are all better than what HBO has been putting out recently. True Detective sucked, this current show about the housing project sucks, The Newsroom sucked, The Brink sucks, Ballers was just OK. The only go-to good show on the network is Game of Thrones.

Anyone watch the pilot episode of hand of God in amazon prime? The entire season will be released next week. The pilot was intriguing.

The show is still going at a snails pace, but at least we are starting to see some walkers. Im enjoying it so far, but it will need to pick up the pace soon.

This show was never supposed to be about the infected (they're using that instead of walkers here). It's about how society crumbles when shit hits the fan. It would lose all of the dramatic effect and build up if they launched straight into tons of zombies running around.

It's slow but I like it. It's an entertaining slow so far.

As opposed to True Detective, that went slow but just pissed you off.

This is what I was hoping they would do. It's the stuff that happens before the apocalypse that I've always wanted to see. Havent watched last night yet, but I assume it will be slow here in the beginning. Kind of like Better Call Saul was, but then ramp up to what everyone wants.

Also, in the pilot, the Guidance counselor/teacher couple seemed like partners in a cop show, not average educators. They are good actors, just seemed a little weird to me how strong their characters are. I'll be watching # 2 tonight.

Didnt get to watch the episode last night. Will watch it on DVR tonight. Heard it was much better. Anyone else get to see it?

Watched it last night, and this is what Ive been waiting for. It finally got going and things start to happen. I look forward to the rest of the series.

So I watched last night. I had such high hopes for this series, but it has been a let down. I will finish out the series, but its not a priority.

At least the real walking dead is almost here!

I havent watched last night yet. But I have a question about last week. Is it just me, or did they jump way ahead with whats going on? It went from not everyone knowing whats going on to full scale military takeover. I felt like I missed a few episodes or something. I was hoping that we would see more of how the nation was finding out and reacting to whats going on and how everything started to build up to "when everything went down" as they say in TWD. Now it just looks like this is all a set up yo how the government/military is bad at handling it and it will be up to these people to fight the "big bad military". Maybe this week will answer my questions, but I'm not interested in a citizen vs gov, conspiracy type show.
Yea things escalated too quickly in the show. It when from most people having no idea what was even going on to sudden military lock down.

I look forward to the show being over.

I do agree that they escalated everything too fast in the show. We went from people not knowing what to do with the "infected" to an entire military quarantine in like 2 episodes. We needed more time to let everyone freak out about what's going on.

The alternative theory, I guess, is that the military/government knew what was going on, and the scope, well before the public did and were planning for this.

I didnt think of that angle as far as the government knowing. The "virus" had to come from somewhere- probably some kind of anti aging, superhuman experiment? The comic book people here probably know. The episode last week showed dead people that werent zombies and the lady confirmed they were killed, but not "sick". in the walking Dead, everyone is infected so I guess they will eventually explain how that happened.

I read before this show started that we weren't going to find out the Patient Zero story or how this all started. They're going to show what happens in the beginning but never actually say "This is how it started". So my theory is that they're alluding to the fact that whatever it is, or how it started, was being tracked well ahead of time by the government and that some type of contingency plan was already drawn up.

That's at least how this show seems to be going. I don't think the writers are lazy enough to make that kind of jump ahead without having it tie back into something more believable later on.

If you remember Season 1 of TWD, they showed the CDC building basically being a fortress with automated locking doors and heavy surveillance. That's not typical for a CDC building. We know that the "disease" spreads rapidly, so we can infer that the government began fortifying the CDC building well before shit actually hit the fan, knowing what might happen.

I think that's the theme- this disease/the zombies topple even the most powerful command structures.

I personally like the show. But I'm not requiring it to answer everything to like it.

Most interesting will be watching how AMC handles the time arc. They're doing a Season 2, so this show will have to run into the same time arc as the beginning of TWD pretty soon. They'll have to be careful that they don't just end up creating The Walking Dead - 90210.

Some people speculate that TWD will eventually weave these FTWD characters into their show further down the time arc.
