No. 6 UCF Welcomes Fairfield for Three-Game Set
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The sixth-ranked Knights return to the UCF Baseball Complex on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. tilt against Fairfield. The series continues on Saturday at 4 p.m. and finishes up at 1 p.m. Sunday.
UCF closed out one of the toughest starts to the season with a pair of tough losses at Florida State. The 14-4 start came against a schedule that featured 17 games against opponents that competed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Due to arena events on Friday and Saturday, Garage F adjacent to the UCF Baseball Complex will be charging $10 per vehicle. Free parking is available in the baseball lot and E8 located off Orion Blvd. All lots including Garage F will be free on Sunday (Parking Map).
The Knights boast one of the most powerful offenses in the country and rank inside the top five in hits (192) and runs (138). The squad has compiled the sixth-best slugging pct. at .485.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Cre Finfrock is set to make his first Friday night start against E.J. Ashworth (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 K). The Jensen Beach, Fla., native is one of 16 pitchers that leads the county with four victories. He has fanned 14 batters in 22 innings of work.
Looking for his fourth win of the season is sophomore righty Robby Howell, who has recorded 19 strikeouts on the campaign. The Stags are going with lefty Tucker Panciera (0-0, 3.38 ERA, 1 K). The Sunday matchup has yet to be determined.
Farfield (0-5) had its first six games cancelled before coming to the Sunshine State and falling to North Florida and No. 1 Florida. The Staggs are led by Billy Zolga with a .333 average, while four runs each have been driven in by Jake Salpietro and Troy Scocca.
