GOL was a great coach, especially for what he was handed and what he turned it into. Collected lots of hardware (12 seasons; 3.3 conference titles and played for 2 others). GOL adopted and hired Taaffe and let him run the offense starting in 2009, which Taaffe tweaked to the strengths of whoever was QB, while GOL focused on defense and special teams. Gus is no GOL. From 2009 to 2014 (when Taaffe retired after that season; 6 season with 4 different QBs) we went 8-5 (Hodges...Sr Transfer at QB), 11-3 (Godfrey true freshman at QB), 5-7 (Bortles/Godfrey went off-the-rails, off-the-field), 10-4 (Bortles), 12-1 (Bortles), and 9-4 (Holman).

If Terry tries to pass this off as a step up in competition thing there will be a real revolt from the fans. He was a betting favorite in 9 of 12 games this season and only won 4. Vegas doesn't give away free money - they knew there was more talent than the end product we were treated to week in and week out. Gus would've had this team on a losing trajectory in the American as well. He is washed as a coach.

I haven't felt this uninspired about an upcoming UCF season since we went 4-8 in 2008 and it didn't look like we had anything coming back at the QB position for that 2009 season. I have no faith that Gus and staff can coach up QBs.

We were all watching the game yesterday and at times we had no idea what the staff was even trying to do. Rizk gets a couple of first downs and looks like he might get into a little groove, then Gus yanks him at like the 45 yard line to put in Brown for 2 plays that went nowhere, then he sticks Rizk back in for a long 3rd down attempt and the drive stalls.

Why was EJ playing? EJ looked lost, like he was out in the sandlot with his friends when they were 12, just running around like a chicken with the head cut off. Rizk needed all those snaps. He has a lot to learn and a long ways to mature.

Yeah, he was handed a complete pile of sh-t. We had no football program, the support needed around an actual football program, no "home", etc..... He laid the foundation for UCF becoming a football program instead of just having a football team. In year 2 he played for a conference title. In year 4 we won one. I'm not forgetting anything. So playing for titles in year 2 and 4 of your tenure just isn't fast enough for you...that's slow-rolling it?

Yes, good coaches hire good staff that make them look good. That's the whole point of having a competent staff.

As far as Rob Calabrese goes I don't know what history you're talking about with Calabrese and Taaffe:
2008: He started 6 games, and played a little in others; Yes, in 2008 we basically had no QB. Taaffe was not even at UCF
2009: 1 game versus Texas, and played a few downs in 6 other games...pass attempts in those game: 7,4,4,4,1,7.
2010: Starter for the South Dakota game then split time against NC State. Then had only 6 pass attempts the rest of the season.
2011: No stats
2012: Came in during "Wild Knight" formations and had rushing attempts in almost every game but no pass attempts.

GOL never had players fighting each other. He would never have waved off the QB and disrespected his players. If anything and what I was critical of GOL for was being to hard on his players. The players don't love Gus and he has absolutely no control of the locker room. the point I was making was not to compare him to a pedophile but to say you would have overlooked that because you wouldn't have wanted to go out and hire a new coach when the program was doing so well.

Id rather not have a program than continue with this stuck up, arrogant son of a bitch. A fan could coach better. Also what recruiting are you talking about, kids are fleeing the program in droves and we are about to have one of the worst recruiting classes in history.

Auburn moved on and just beat a ranked TAMU and has the number 10 recruiting class coming in. They saw the dead weight with Gus and Harsin and moved on.

Keep living in a fantasy world that Grandpa Bust will turn this program around. Heck we may not even have a QB next year the way things are going.

Look man quit the bullshit. Gus can't be our new O'Leary when he doesn't know how to develop talent. O'Leary and his staff were developers of talent and they found great under the radar prospects. I still remember in his very first last minute class he got Sitton and Douzable who ended up with more than just a cup of coffee in the NFL. 2nd class had Kevin Smith, Patrick Brown (a 2 star o-lineman from Illinois, now that's turning over every rock right there) and Smoking Joe Burnett.
