First Charges filed in Mueller Investigation

Not surprising.

Have they stated the charges? When I heard mention of the IRS awhile back, I had a feeling we'd see some tax fraud or something similar.

Looking forward to Trumpets defending this. I love watching people with a blatant disconnect with reality try to defend their deeply held preconceived beliefs. Entertaining AF

Here it is:
"U.S. v. Paul J. Manafort, Jr., and Richard W. Gates III (1:17-cr-201, District of Columbia)

Paul J. Manafort, Jr., of Alexandria, Va., and Richard W. Gates III, of Richmond, Va., have been indicted by a federal grand jury on Oct. 27, 2017, in the District of Columbia. The indictment contains 12 counts: conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts. The case was unsealed on Oct. 30, 2017, after the defendants were permitted to surrender themselves to the custody of the FBI."

lol I love how every single thread is just a way to argue and piss and moan for you.

What is there to defend? Most everyone thought Manafort was dirty and it's likely the reason the guy was fired after just 2.5 months on the job as Campaign Chair. He was let go at a time when the primaries were barely in full swing and most everyone just assumed that the Trump candidacy didn't have a prayer in hell.

And actually, in reading the charges, it looks like he's being charged more for being a longtime crook who failed to report huge sums of corrupted money, rather than being specifically identified as having done something to influence the election.

Some excerpts from the indictment:
-Between at least 2006 and 2015, Manafort and Gates acted as unregistered agents of the Government of Ukraine, the Party of Regions (a Ukrainian political party whose leader Victor Yanukovych was President from 2010 to 2014), Yanukovych, and the Opposition Bloc (a successor to the Party of Regions that formed in 2014 when Yanukovych fled to Russia). In order to hide Ukraine payments from US authorities, from approximately 2006 to 2016, Manafort and Gates laundered the money through scores of US and foreign corporations, partnerships, and bank accounts.
-They hid the money in Cyprus, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, and the Sychelles. They falsely reported to their tax preparers and to the US that they had no foreign bank accounts.
-They failed to disclose they were working as agents of Ukraine while lobbying US officials. They lied and misled when asked by the DoJ.
-In total, more than $75 million flowed through the offshore accounts. Manafort laundered more than $18 million which used to buy property, goods, and services in the US. Gates transferred more than $3 million from the offshore accounts.

lol @ you quoting me just to piss and moan and say "ninja was right"

Except your last sentence, still trying to figure out how 12 counts of "conspiracy against the United States" is just someone being a longtime crook.

Correct. In essence, Mueller found a fairly typical crook who took huge sums of money from a corrupted regime and laundered it internationally.

The charges are more about a history of Manafort being a tax evader than being some pawn in Russia "hacking" our election.

The conspiracy charges are deserved since he was working as an undeclared agent for a foreign country for YEARS and hiding the money.

My point was that these charges deal more with the guy's history as a Ukranian pawn vs. being a tangible game changer in the election. Which is precisely what the Dems were hoping for.

Oh look! Another thread in which Ninja is intent on starting flame wars. Shocking!

Huh, funny. I thought you were the one who quoted me first literally just to bitch and whine that I dare post in a thread.

All you do is lie. And then once a month like a hormonal woman you come on here and bitch and moan about me posting.

I'm sorry I continually embarrass you with facts.

US vs George Papadopoulos is now posted. For lying about the "timing, extent, and nature of his relationships and interactions with certain foreign nationals whom he understood to have close connections with senior Russian government officials."

He struck a plea deal to reduce his sentence. His false claims included:
-Lying about the timing of his interactions with an overseas professor with substantial connections to Russian Government officials. The professor told him the Russians had "dirt" on Hillary in the form of thousands of e-mails. Papadopoulos said he learned that prior to having an official role in the campaign which was false. The professor took interest in the defendant because of his status with the Campaign.
-Papadopoulos repeatedly sought to use the professor's Russian connection in an effort to arrange a meeting between the Campaign and Russian government officials.
-Papadopoulos claimed he met a female Russian national before he joined the campaign and that their communications consisted of basic conversations (i.e. Hi, how are you). In truth, he met the russian national after he became an advisor to the Campaign, be believed that she had connections to Russian government officials, and he sought to use her Russian connections to arrange a meeting between the Campaign and Russian officials.
-No meeting with Russia ever occurred from his efforts.

The statements mentions the Russian MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) as the Russian Government Official the professor knew of.

The statement also included a line about Papadopolous running "shuttle diplomacy" with officials from several other countries during the campaign.

I wonder what the plea deal involved.

The documents details his reduction from a max 5 year sentence and $250k fine to a 6 month max and $9,500 max fine. I believe his signed statement detailing all of the lies is part of it. I'm sure they got more to go off of as well. There's a few titles included in his statement, like "Senior Policy Advisor", "High Ranking Campaign Official", and "Campaign Supervisor". My guess is they used his signed statement to cross reference against their statements to see if they were truthful.

i hope more people are brought in. would like to see alot of people finally get brought down.

I agree, I have no idea how people can be so stupid as to think "their" side is squeaky clean and the other side is completely 100% corrupt. Investigate both parties (and pretty much everyone in DC) they are all corrupt.

Agree. What's interesting about both indictments is none of it mentions collusion for the election. If anything, it details all of the back channel communication that takes place.

One of the e-mails with the female Russian National said, "...As mentioned we are all very excited by the possibility of a good relationship with Mr. Trump. The Russian Federation would love to welcome him once his candidature would be officially announced."(This was in April 2016) The statement also mentions how Popodopolous was told by the "Campaign Supervisor" (in March 2016) that a principal foreign policy focus of the Campaign was an improved US relationship with Russia.

The collusion could still be there, but it's not in this release. If anything it seems like he was trying to set up the structure of foreign policy, including contacting other countries, but then lied to the FBI about contacting Russia.

Campaign Supervisor is Clovis, Trump's pick to be the Department of Agriculture's chief scientist. I bet he didn't work for the campaign either.
We need to start a counter (Rep and Dem) to keep track of all the indictments. I give it 1 week before the first Democrat is indicted

Just keep refreshing this page. It's updated when new indictments come out of the Special Counsels Office.
