How did I miss that AJ Davis is out until December?

The other 3-4 guys look good so far.

UCF wins 80-56 UCF played great the 2nd half.

BJ just makes the team better. (2 early 1st half fouls had him sitting the bench).

Big knight for Matt Williams, Tacko, Tank and BJ.

Banyard looks good and great addition.

Chad Brown could be great. He needs to develop an offensive game.

Nice to see the big guy working the boards. (Tacko Time) Nicholls had no answer for him. It was also nice to see BJ back he ran the offense well. It's a little concerning about bench strength we will see how that plays out. "Nice opening win":sunglasses:

Tacko blocked weakly by their 7-foot Aussie, so Tacko merely grabbed it back and scored anyway. He went to the floor several times to get the ball. Loved his failed attempt to lead the fast break. three dribbles covered half the length of the court. A pretty assist by Laing off his drive for a Tacko dunk. Tacko and B.J. both called for a couple ticky-tack offensive fouls.

Tacko was very aggressive at defense and offense. UCF played sloppy first half but really turned it up in the 2nd. UCF likes to shoot the 3. Doesn't look like any hesitation to shoot if you are open. They do look to feed it into Tacko on a set up offense play.

Williams hits 6 3s to send UCF past Nicholls St 80-56

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Matt Williams scored 20 points -- 18 coming on 3-pointers -- and all five Central Florida starters scored in double figures in an 80-56 win against Nicholls State on Monday night.

Tacko Fall, currently the tallest player in NCAA basketball at 7 feet 6 inches, scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, Nick Banyard had 10 points and 12 boards, while Tanksley Efianayi had 16 points and 9 rebounds.

But Central Florida (1-0) only led 33-30 at the half, and Tre O'Neal's steal and layup for Nicolls (1-1) with 15:08 to go tied it at 43. After a TV timeout, Williams made two 3s and Banyard hit a jumper in less than two minutes.

Later, another Williams 3 pushed it to 64-51. Jahvaughn Powell's 3 cut the deficit to 10 with 5:54 to go, but the Knights used a 16-2 run to seal it.

Johnathan Bell led Nicholls with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Situations like that will be key come conf play (or in any of the tough 3 games this weekend), as neither can afford to get into foul trouble.

I wonder if last night's game was the first time that UCF had to use 2 walk-ons in the first half (at the same time too).

As Jones had told him last season, Dawkins also said last night that he shouldn't try to block every shot. I'm more concerned about B.J. getting beat up like Jordan used to be by driving the middle (I'd rather he pull up more for his very accurate looping shot). Chance didn't have that problem because he was so quick and got so high. B.J. doesn't get the elevation nor is his ball handling and acceleration good enough (yet?) to bring the ball up without working so hard (I wish he'd look to pass into the frontcourt). I know, it's just his first game back, but he's still a 2-guard in a point guard's body.

I had to google his name to learn more about the dude. He played pretty good. I think I saw him make one bad pass, but basically was a pretty good relief point guard last night.

What a sensational article! And it just got a lot better Monday night. No way Nate or anyone else in the world expected he'd be playing most of the first half. He's the only one without a name on his jersey, and his number 30 wasn't listed on the program. I'm asked everyone sitting around me.

When B.J. gets two bad calls for offensive fouls, in Nate comes. He immediate slips on the court face down. Suddenly he's the only guy on the court for UCF with the ball handling skills to take on the constant full court pressure by Nicholls' quick and physical guards. The maturity and leadership calmed his teammates after B.J. had trouble shaking off the cobwebs of a season off. He played within his abilities and size. Helped the team maintain its small lead throughout the half.

His name was on the program, just under another #.

Everyone seems to be talkimg him up, but I was not impressed with his play. He looked a little lost on the floor. I would rate him average for a walk on at best (after 1 game).

We're not saying he's an all star, just that we've been without a natural point guard for two seasons (even B.J. averaged 34 pts in high school and did all the shooting). A grad asst. flunkie makes the team, forced to play big minutes against a team that just trounced BC at home, and us with zero depth. Everyone in the arena including me feared disaster when he was forced into service. This is better than Rudi, not Field of Dreams. If we salvage wins in the weeks before A.J. returns, it's gonna be because we now know Nate can spell Matt or B.J. without the roof falling in.
