I just found out that an acquaintance of mine belongs to this society and truly believes the Earth is flat. I had never heard of it before, but apparently it's out there that this crazy conspiracy theory argues that the Earth is flat.

Needless to say I almost burst out laughing in his face until I saw he truly believes it. It will be difficult to take him seriously from now on.

Anyone else ever heard of this?

Supposedly there's a wall of ice. They have maps that show it.

There's so many ways to disprove it. I'd be curious to hear how the explain stars and constellations. Especially why southern hemisphere constellations are not visible from the north? Under flat earth theory, you should be able to see all the stars.

I wonder how these people rationalize flight times for overseas flights then. I say this since going from London to LA is roughly only 1 hour longer than going from London to Atlanta, despite LA being thousands of miles further away. This is of course due to the fact that the globe is curved and the aircraft can fly up and "down" much faster than it would take going straight across.

If the earth were flat then the flight to LA would take at least another 3-4 hours vs. Atlanta.

So Antarctica is a myth? Like no one has ever been to the south pole? Amazing.

And how does the sun shine in Asia when it's dark in the Americas, or how does the sun not shine at all during the winter solstice in the Arctic and yet shine in the rest of the world? Or better yet, how is the distance between Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope the same as the distance between New York and London? Good Lord.

a lot of conspiracies are idiotic but I love watching shows that feature people who believe them.

Ancient Aliens is total nonsense yet it's entertaining as hell watching the people push their revisionist history.

My personal favorite were the conspiracy shows on the Bermuda triangle.

You still don't understand: that isn't how science works. It is obvious that you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but there is no such thing as a "scientifically disproven statement." Just like there isn't such thing as god.
