First, not a lib. Second, not conflicted. Third, the death penalty should not exist in our civilized society. Fourth, this is being posted by someone who's aunt was brutally raped and murdered, and her body dumped in an orange grove.
Huh? 50,000,000+ innocent children have been legally murdered since 1970 and you are worried about murderers and rapists suffering the same fate as their victims? A death that is a shit ton more humane than the torture and suffering they put their victims and victim's families through...

Where did I say that my reasoning was based on compassion for the criminal? It has nothing to do with that and everything to do with the following:
*Criminal cases that don't include the death penalty cost about half of those that do include the death penalty.
*Each death row prisoner costs we the taxpayers about $90k more annually than other prisoners.
*The death penalty is not a deterrent, as it was intended to be.
*Sharia Law also advocates for executing people convicted of various crimes. Do we want to be in that company?
Also, I am family to a victim so STFU. I'm perfectly happy knowing that the asshole that raped and murdered my aunt rotted in prison until his death rather than being put out of his otherwise indefinite misery by being executed.

According to Republicans, the only thing our government is capable of doing correctly is killing citizens.
The VA and Planned Parenthood have done a bang up job of that.
I am firmly supportive of executing people that we know are guilty and have confessed. However the idea of killing just ONE innocent person makes my skin crawl. And given that new DNA evidence has freed people on death row, it makes me wonder if at least a pause in executions is necessary.

Thank you. It was a long time ago, not that that ever helps to fully heal the wounds. The silver lining is that her memory lives on in that my sister named my niece after my aunt.
I am firmly behind the death penalty. In fact, I think we need to get some of the Disney people to help us install a fast pass system.
