The UConn message boards are chock full O' hatred towards UCF. They know the trophy was stupid but now HATE UCF for dissing it so completely. They are talking about bringing it to UCF next year and leaving it there if they win. Now THIS is how you build a rivalry. Good old fashioned hate and discontent.

It could end up being the trophy you have to keep when you lose. I hope it does.

Link? I enjoy stating the UCFacts to opposing fan bases. [smoke]

Bring it back here so we can get some footage of it being crushed by a metal crusher assembled by our engineering department :)

I say get someone to encourage them to bring it. Tell them "of course we will keep IF WE LOSE, but that will never happen". Start some real smack talk. We need to do something to spice up this league now that we know we are stuck in it.

Worthless. We have no rivalry with them, and trying to create one out of thin air will never work. It has to happen organically (usually being located close geographically so your fans actually travel/interact, or if you play each other regularly and there is more on the line than just winning the division, e.g. FSU/UF or FSU/Miami). USF is our only rival right now....period. If there was another team that kind of fits the bill it would be Tulsa because we've played for hardware several times in the past, but there is no beef between fanbases and we don't play each other every year.

Next thing is people will want a virtual trophy because nobody can come up with a legit one.

It's over. For the hundredth time, we left the trophy and there's no going back on that. Done. Finished.

No I think you miss the point. A rivalry is usually caused by an event or series of events. The Geographic rivalries came about back in the day before travel was so easy and playing 100 times in the course of history tends to help. It was natural. The USF/UCF rivalry developed because we were both fighting for legitimacy at the same time and both trying desperately to distance ourselves from the other to show that we were "beyond them". Nothing heated this rivalry more than the Bulls insistence that it did not exist in 2006 and 2007. That really got UCF juices flowing. This is essentially what we are saying to Uconn. You are not our rivals. You are not worth starting something like this. They take offense to that and maybe it goes on from there.

Also I dont know why people are so snobby about these kinds of things. Lighten up a little. Have fun with it. Make fun of it, go with it. What has UCF got to lose?

The only feud this board wants is for UCF to grovel for entry into a P5 conference.

I think a vote should be placed that we put a stop to all rivalry requests until we can figure out whats going on and how we get into a P5 conference.****

personally we shouldve said yes but only on the condition that the conflict involve uconn mens and womens basketball too. Lets see how interested UConn would be after that.

I agree. Why all the hate? I think it's a good idea to get something started. And guess what...now it has started something! Any pres is good press! :)

Look. I don't know how good a coach Diaco will ultimately turn out to be, but he's genuine. He might even be a little crazy, but he's not a liar. If UCF deliberately left that trophy behind it was a genuinely classless act. There was a way to kill that thing without embarrassing Diaco and the program. I get folks being frustrated with the season and Diaco. But the sentiment on this issue is really clear to me - F**K UCF!
I wasn't exactly thrilled with the way this went down, but honestly I don't see how this couldn't have turned out better. 19 people liked the comment above. The sentiment on their board was from a genuine hatred that only public embarrassment could bring. My hats off to SF if this was planned. The gentleman rivalry Diaco was trying to setup is a thing from the past. We don't need to recognize the rivalry at all. In fact, in not doing so, we'll bring a bigger rivalry than anything that could be fabricated. There's no way this doesn't spill over to basketball - if for no other reason to exact their revenge on us.

Our conference could use a little a spice like this. As an UCF alum though I would hope for an athletic program with some class. Per my screen name, as an FSU alum my distaste for Miami stems from their thuggish low class swagger of the early 90s. I don't mine the swagger as long as it is earned on the field. There is an element of ignoring the trophy that reflects poorly on UCF and good sportsmanship. I see why UConn fans got mad.

I do agree with several here that ignoring the trophy and all likely has the desired effect of a rivalry game and I kind of like how the loser keeps the trophy . Its Kind of funny if you ask me.

I seriously doubt that this was planned. SF simply doesn't care about a rivalry with UConn and good
for him. Rise and conquer!!!

Frost said this morning on 740 with Bianci that he just wasn't paying attention to a trophy on the side line. (Believe it or not) :)

this whole joke started bc Diaco has a weird man-crush on O'leary. He was the only Coach that publicly stated that we shouldn't have fired/forced him to retire.

Instead of saying that he made calls and talked to people it would be nice to get some specifics. Who specifically did he talk to? He has not provided any details on this. Until he does I will assume this was 100% his doing with no input from UCF.

Absolutely damage control.

My biggest problem isn't the rivalry or the trophy, it's the name. The civil conflict trophy it sounds like an award given out to attorneys or CEOs after taking a class. It's too PC. Give it a better name the fight for the O'Leary trophy for example.
