Food allergies

Not me, but I know a guy that is allergic to tomatoes. That has to suck.

My time to shine! (or be ridiculed, whatever)

Severe food allergies:
- Eggs (all parts of an egg)
- Dairy (milk, cheese, etc.)
- Tree Nuts
- Most Seafood

Food intolerance (I can eat in very very small quantities):
- Mustard
- Cinnamon

When I went for allergy testing, the following also showed up to a much lesser degree:
- Rice
- Peas
- Soy
- some random others I can't recall at the moment

And don't even get me started on environmental allergies. Yay modern medicine!

wow.
that sucks. life must suck for you.

I do have environmental allergies - namely all typesof grass pollens (for a former high amateur golfer this was ironic) essentially all tree pollen (severe) and pet dander.
Turns out i have a severe cat urine/feces allergy which spurred toxoplasmosis which ive been suffering from for almost three weeks now.

No food allergies for me. I get the normal stuffiness when the weather changes in the fall and sneeze when I go outside with the bright sun, but thats about it.

I don't have any deadly allergies, but tree nuts and honeydew/cantaloupe melons cause the roof of my mouth and the back of my throat to itch. I was allergic to milk as a young child, but now I am not.

Beets, parsnips, and cooked carrots make me gag, but not raw carrots, but I don't think that counts as an allergy.

Stevia. Started getting sinus headaches after I tried it for a while. Turns out it's like eating ragweed, if you're allergic to that.

You need to add monogamy to that list

Wow, take care of yourself!

And surprisingly it doesn't feel like I'm at that much of a disadvantage, although that's probably because I don't know anything else. It does hit me randomly how different I experience food/life in instances like when I find a vegan restaurant and have food options and freeze up because I'm just genuinely not used to having more than one or two safe dishes to choose from. I don't know how anyone ever ends up deciding what to eat if they have no restrictions!
Also, until recently (when I discovered vegan brunch at Ethos), I didn't get America's obsession with breakfast/brunch. To me it was the most boring meal of the day because it was either oatmeal, a PB sandwich, or raisin bran with soy milk.
I also didn't have any baked goods until my late 20's. I was 28-ish when I tried a chocolate chip cookie for the first time.

Anyway, sorry for the tangent- it's just weird to think most everyone else is relaxed when they get invited out to eat, instead of getting stressed out about being able to find food, and remembering to pre-eat at home just in case.

I'm lactose-intolerant, but if I avoid cheese and cream, I'm usually okay. I feel for LMK....I have a family member allergic to onion (and onion powder). You have no idea how many things have a certain ingredient until you're allergic to it.

I've literally had "salt & lime" flavored potato chips that gave me a reaction because they had "dried nonfat milk" as an ingredient. Wat.

I'm the nerd who wonders how the fk people like you can exist. Five hundred years ago you'd have been dead before your first birthday, not to mention the 100,000 years beforehand. How has that shit not been selected out a long time ago?

My family member has fatal nut allergies.

Ignorant people can die. Anyway, I don't care.

I totally agree- however I'm the first in my family tree to have such severe allergies, so I can safely say I'm going to be the genetic downfall of future generations. Especially procreating with a ginger.

New question then. How can you justify being an atheist when god so clearly hates you?

I don't have any allergies, but I do have Celiac Disease.
So an autoimmune disease triggered by a specific food protein... but not a food allergy.

It took no less than 2 trips to the emergency room in my 30s, with my throat nearly closed, to figure out I had an allergy to select mushrooms. Now I just don't change it at all with any mushrooms.

Like many people, in my youth, the activity and resulting, natural adrenaline kept my allergies more at bay. But now that I'm older, less active and overweight, many have become acute, with a few now even chronic as I'm into my 40s.

People who get allergic to things reminds me of the time UCFBS got hot and stormed out like a little teenager when things were going bad at a UCF game. People who sit near him at football games say he is the most obnoxious and annoying idiot they have ever seen.
