OK Cooligans ... need some help here.
As most of you know, when Im not lawyering or teaching, Im lobbying up here in Tallahassee. And keeping up appearances is important in that business. One of my partners is throwing a party at his home with friends. This isn't a pool party with Budweiser. It's being catered and the event is in Tallahassee's best community. Everyone knows that clients will be there and we are expected to dress smartly. Its just a courtesy you show to your friend hosting.
Here's the deal: The host is a bit abrasive and his wife is unbearable. He recently asked one of our other partners if he would drive another vehicle to the party or catch a ride, rather than the 2001 Ford Mustang that the partner drives to work each day. The vehicle needs paint, has dents, etc. The host said his wife requested it because the Mustang will be parked out front and it sends a poor message to clients attending the party about the finances of the firm. I actually tend to agree with her belief, but not her methods of confronting the guy with the problem.
I've got the reputation as the peacemaker amongst a tight knit group of guys here at the firm. So Im being asked to mediate this situation. The guy that owns the car is going offing crazy angry about it saying she is a bitch and he will drive what he wants. Not going to the party is not an option. He has to be there.
So, here's the question:
When you see a guy in his early 40's, nicely dressed, driving a beat up Mustang, do you think to yourself, current or former white trash? Ladies: He's unmarried and hasn't dated in awhile, so I have considered tell him that the stang is hurting his game with the ladies in his age group. True?
