Former UCF star Johnell Neal's family rebuilding after La. floods

Wouldn't it be smarter to rebuild somewhere other than a flood plain?

Wow, bah humbug Ebineezer. Just take a minute to think if you lost everything. Reflect on that for a minute. Sure the govy gonna give some crappy assistance so you don't starve, but people are really hurting over there.

$5 is all it takes to reach the goal. Maybe this will go towards a down payment on a new house, food, entertainment, or something else. Don't really care. Anybody in?

Agree with donations. Just a question- has government assistance really gone downhill? Way back in the hurricane that destroyed south Florida, at least one person was given the value of their home, not bad since they also had insurance on it too. Has it been cut back a lot? I thought this thing was here to help those that needed it.

PS I live in Tornado Alley and should the worst happen, I'd rebuild in the exact same spot, well maybe to the left a few feet.

I get what you're saying, but govt assistance doesn't replace all the stuff in your house. If you have enough insurance to cover all of it, that's awesome. But walk through your house and calculate how much it would cost to replace every item in it....clothes, furniture, bedding, food.
Plus, I can tell you from having family go through Hurricane Andrew, it can take months and months to get any money from insurance.

NPR had a show on last week that talked about the options folks have without flood insurance. They can possible get a loan for up to 33K. They take it out of the equity they had on the house.
"The - generally available for almost everyone victimized by this event is a SBA loan. That, frankly, will allow people to rebuild their homes in most cases, but will suck out of their home the equity that was built up therein. It's unfortunate. It's the biggest investment most people in our state make - their home - and with uninsured losses to total $40,000, $50,000, that will leave them, in the parlance of the finance world, yet again underwater."
