Frost fires four offensively coaches, Beckton remains

"It worked at UCF, but there's a reason why you see very few head coaches call the offense or defense at the high-Power Five level." Someone remind me...when has Nebraska been a "high-Power Five level" program...1997/1999? They haven't been to a bowl game since 2016.

surprised he fired Ryan Held

guess Beckton is happy up there …figured he would try to head back South

I don't see why a head coach can't call plays. Don't some coaches call plays in the NFL?

they're probably talking about the conference they're in and the multiple top 10 teams they've played this year

Because he’s in charge of entire team. Not just the offense. OC needs to be with the offense when they aren’t on field to discuss what needs to happen going forward. He can’t do that because he needs to watch defense and special teams because he’s in charge of them too. CEOs don’t run the shipping docks because they are in charge of entire operation. Hire someone that can solely run the offense. He can still call a play or 2.

Sounds like (from the article) that they just didn't have the talent nor did they develop the talent. I think these were the reasons Huep was failing here along with non-creative play calling and a terrible defensive coordinator.....Mr. Shannon.

Since Gus shot down the idea of giving up play calling at his introductory press conference I feel like he and TMo have an agreement that will not happen.

7 guys from the 2017 team made NFL rosters. That’s all you need to know. That doesn’t even include the Heisman-level QB that was playing.

Frost just doesn’t have enough talent to do what he wants to do. After a couple years, though, you’d think he’d stop trying to put the big square peg in the little round hole.
His days are numbered. He is financially secure. I just wondered who is going to hire him now that his stock is down. I think he is a good coach that didn't have the talent he needed.

They save $8.5M by firing him next year instead of this year under his new contract. IMO only way he sees a sixth year would be if they win the division. Can’t see them keeping him even if he would get them up to .500. Their new AD was willing to throw away a year to save some money.

Yea if he wasn’t an alum he’d be gone. The issue though is if he can’t win who can there? Is Nebraska dead? The fans have to be thinking that a little. The big 10 west is a joke that they should win 3 out of 4 years.
That is other piece to consider. I do not see them attracting a top tier coach to Lincoln especially given the product on the field. Frost might be the best they can get at this point and they just got him for a little cheaper.

usf, the entire whatever C-USA will be, some down on their luck AAC, Sunbelt, MWC. He's probably got 30 or so places he could end up. Then, it might take longer this time, but some low P5, probably Big XII team will take a flier on him.

I could be misreading him but I don’t think he accepts any job in a lesser conference unless something unforeseen happens and UCF wants him back

The path I most likely see if he is fired in one year is NFL Assistant

It's not like their attendance goes down any with losses...LOL. It's the only thing to do in Lincoln.
