The offers are just getting started.
Palm Bay running back Brian Lankford-Johnson, who had also been a primary target of the previous staff, got the call he had been hoping for.
"I got a DM from Coach Ryan (Callaghan) and he told me to call Coach Frost right now," Lankford-Johnson said. "So I did and he broke everything down for me. He told me the ball is in my court now. He offered me on the spot."
Lankford-Johnson, who attended the recent UCF-USF game, says the new offense was the biggest element of Frost's pitch.
"He told me came from Oregon and he said, 'You know what we run, right? You know what type of backs we like?' I was like, of course I do. 'I see you in our offense and doing that here.' He said, 'Do you want to be here?' I was like, yes sir!"
An official visit was discussed.
"It's still early, we've got to figure some things out, but it will be some time in January."
UCF has always been a school high on Lankford-Johnson's list.
"I've always liked UCF," Lankford-Johnson said. "My coach (Dan Burke) went there. He's a Hall of Famer there. I went to a few games this year. I've been on campus a few times. Even when they were doing bad, I know it's a good program with lots of history. Coach Frost coming in has really gotten me excited. It's making me think about staying in Orlando and giving them a shot. I'm really excited."
New Mexico State also offered on Thursday joining Akron, Appalachian State, Bethune-Cookman, Cincinnati, South Florida, Tennessee-Martin and Western Kentucky.
"Right now I have an official visit to App State on Jan. 30 and an official with Akron I think on Jan. 15," Lankford-Johnson said. "I will have one with UCF too. I'm not sure when."
Lankford-Johnson thought he'd announce a top five this week, but he's going to hold off on doing that. Right now his focus is on playing in next week's Central Florida High School All-Star Game which will be played Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Lake Brantley.
