Hopefully our program gets to the point where speedsters like Whitfield want to stay and play for the Hometown Team.

FSU's 2013 championship team featured local talents such as receiver Kenny Shaw of Orlando Dr. Phillips High, linebacker Christian Jones of Winter Park Lake Howell High, kicker Roberto Aguayo of Groveland South Lake High and Whitfield, who played home games inside the Citrus Bowl while at Jones High.

Whitfield headlines the group of current Central Florida talents on the roster. Deondre Francois is an Orlando native and is vying for the starting quarterback job as a redshirt freshman, Hoskins is a projected starter and Ricky Aguayo is the favorite to replace his brother as FSU's starting kicker.

"Back in the 1980s, Jim Gladden and coach Bobby Bowden and Mickey Andrews, they were relentless recruiters in Central Florida," said Chip Gierke, who served as the head coach of three high schools in Central Florida between 1978-2013. "I don't want to say this is a hotbed above everyone else, but Coach Fisher, recruiting is one of his strengths. Their presence here is huge now and they've gotten some really good players in the area."

Well, the GOL set back last year put us behind a few years. if we would have stayed decent enough to win our conference (which would have been awesome) or at least go bowling...we were making ground. Now we're rebuilding AGAIN (said in the forrest gump tone) :)

Kenny Shaw = 4 star kid (offers from FSU, Bama, UF, Georgua, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, UCLA...and UCF.) 0% chance of us ever getting him.

Christian Jones was a 5-star kid.....0% chance.

Kermit Whitfield = 4 star kid (offers from FSU, Clemson, UF, Ohio State, Miami, South Carolina, West Virginia....and UCF.) 0% chance of ever getting him.

Kickers are odd. You never know where they come from or who they end up with.

Ro'Derrick Hoskins was a 3 star guy with only offers from FSU and Louisville. I'm sure he shut recruiting down when the FSU offer came in....just like he'd shut down UCF once offers come in from programs like that.

Francois was a 4 star kid (offers from FSU, Auburn, Clemson, UF, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and a whole lot more; At least we weren't the only G5 svhool to offer him.). Maybe we could get a kid like that to take an unofficial visit, unless the stars align for him to take over when he comes in (or a year later).

I get the gist of what you are saying but these kinds of players, getting these offers are a pipe dreams for a G5 program. Maybe every now and then we are able to grab a 4 star RB or WR from the area if we are on them early and often (as well as performing well on the field the prior year). Thing is in a lot of cases we were the only G5 school to offer the aforementioned kids. Nobody else wasted the effort.
What we need to start winning are some of the players that end up at schools like NC State, Loserville, K State, Boston College, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland, Oregon State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, West Virginia...mid level P5 schools. (Btw, I looked at 2015 recruiting classes and these teams all had commits from FL, many from a kid from central florida).
I think Frost is going to work hard to establish good relationships with area high schools. He already demonstrated that in the short timeframe he had to recruit just in one partial offseason.

Whitfield is a little undersized but fast as hell. A similar type player at an Orlando area HS today might at least give UCF a look. I remember watching that title game and seeing him take a kickoff to the house to flip momentum then hearing 'from Orlando Jones HS' ...it just takes a few of those gamechanger type talents to stay home to change a Program

this is a good start. huge turnout

He's the new, flashy car and the local coaches want to get insight into what and how he goes about running the offense. Don't think for a minute that is not why many of them are there. In the end, though, it doesn't matter why they came but that they did and Frost can start working his new sources. How many coaches asked him questions about defense?

Many also will be at the FSU Spring Game later this afternoon...hence one of the reasons why Frost scheduled the clinic for this weekend (HS Coaches from South FL, Orlando and Tampa were going to the "first time" FSU Spring Game in Orlando anyway.

FSU Spring Game...new UCF Head Coach = perfect time for a "legit" road trip to Orlando for HS Coaches (let alone "local" HS Coaches).

I'm glad Frost took advantage of his unique situation to help boost attendance at his own coaching clinic.

I'm glad that we have a coach and AD that look for out of the box opportunities like this. It will serve us well.

There will always be some recruits that want to leave home but at least now we have the popular offensive system to offer and a cool coaching staff. Better times are ahead. Both the recruiting class in Feb. and attendance at the coaches conference point to good things for this school recruiting wise on the near horizon.

Let's see how the motor runs under the hood of this new car in the fall :)

Plus names on backs of the jerseys and new uniforms.
