Future B12 Bball has 5 of top 25

Well, I ask, is this NIL related. To get the players now, they have to get PAID. Does UCF have any NIL folks who will pay the basketball players for NIL? Advertisements, appearances, endorsements? NIL is turning the whole thing into a money game but, the players deserve it if they are that good.

Given that most of the programs were highly successful prior to NIL, can't see it being the main contributor. NIL could be a tool to turn a program from a zero to a contender. But established basketball programs will continue their success.

Basketball is a little different animal than football is also. The top guys know that they only have to wait 1 year for the ultimate payoff (the draft), football players have to wait 3 years. That makes NIL in football a lot more important.

And 3 in the top 7. Let’s see how this effects recruiting for UCF
It will be great for exposure if that is super important to them. Was watching the Big 12/ SEC games this past weekend and that was some exciting basketball.
Going to college in Florida and getting a chance to play against great competition is going to be a major selling point for us in MBB, which should translate into a higher level of talent recruit wise.

I don’t know each schools specifics but basketball has already been paying kids and their handlers loads of money for years. Arizona coach got caught and nothing happened. Coach Cal was doing it at UMASS a long time ago. We even got caught but none of the players actually played for us. Unless you count tiny Rompza who was already playing when he got caught. So I would assume the Kentucky’s, Kansas, Dukes etc still are doing it. You have to in order to get the McDonalds All Americans. We obviously aren’t and that’s why we aren’t getting them.

Doubt joining the Big 12 by itself gets us recruits who are better than what the existing Big 12 is getting but maybe helps us get coaches who can take advantage.

Kansas gets 5 stars a lot. I think we can get IMG and Monte Verde players instead of them going to Memphis. Not sure if Dawkins can get them but maybe a younger coach with more passion.

Sex, drugs, Rap music......if you play at Looserville!

This is just a ridiculous conclusion to come to. McDonald’s All-Americans aren’t coming to UCF because they haven’t been paying them to come? Lol

Are you sure it’s not because we’ve got zero national prestige or history, played for a significant part of our basketball D1 history in the ASUN, have only made the NCAA Tournament a few times, and have one tournament win in school history?

There is zero excitement or energy around this program outside of UCF. Dawkins seems like a nice guy, but it’s time for a change (before the BIG12 swallows this program).

Going into the Big12 we need someone who's hair is on fire with excitement. I really thought this was going to be the year for UCF to get back in the tournament.

You must think Camby went to UMASS because they had 10 NCs and played in the best basketball conference. Funny they haven’t been great since 96. When Cal left. Louisville basketball has not been good since firing their coach. Everyone who follows basketball recruiting knows the players and their handlers are bought. We tried one year and we got a few high rated recruits. Louisville didn’t like it and told on us.

Calipari established UMASS as a basketball power, which previously only highlight was that Dr. J played there in the 60s. There was no money, no prestige at UMASS, no major boosters, peanut salary as a first time head coach taking on a program that hasn't had a winning season in over a decade.

Camby got hit for excepting benefits from sports agents leading up to the draft, but none of that was there in '93 when he came to UMASS. What was there, is a program that went 30-5 in '92 and a sweet 16 appearance, and followed up with another 2nd round appearance the following year.

If Calipari was buying players, then he must have been using loan sharks cause his original $43k base salary at UMASS wasn't going to buy much.

As for what he did in Kentucky and Memphis with larger resources, I am not sure.

It doesn’t come out of the coaches salary. He brokers the deals. Whether with an agent or shoe company or hundreds of other ways to get money. Our coaches didn’t pay for Chandler, Ware and Smith. One of them was promised a good job for their Mom. Others were promised money in general. We don’t get any of them if not. It’s been going on forever. Arizona coach, Miller, is on tape promising money from shoe company for Ayton. A lot of money. Not coming out of coaches paycheck.

That’s right… for those interested in how this used to work pre-NIL, the movie Blue Chips is actually a pretty good (if highly dramatized) look

Just pointed out Calipari literally had no credibility or pull. First time head coach for a very small program. UMass played in a 60 year old 4k capacity gym until 1993.

It’s not about where you play. It’s what agent will help you get a great player in return for them signing with the agent when going to NBA. You already said an agent gave him money and he was caught. That was set up by Cal and he was getting money the whole time at UMASS. Why do you think Sanders is getting top players at HBCU? Because of money.
