Some observations from watching live from Row A in the endzone.
  • Boomer is an upgrade, but the bar is extremely low. Colton missed an XP right in front of us while warming up before the 2nd half. I pray its 1st game jitters.
  • RJ runs extremely well. If there was ever a mash-up of a big power back like Bowser, and a speedy back like AK, it’s Harvey. Not as shifty as Richardson or Otis, but had speed that stood out.
  • The freaking early drops were maddening. JRP has his bad throws, every QB does, but we really need to capitalize on the good throws, especially when they’re from a “running” QB.
  • The defense was literally getting trampled over those couple of drives in the 1st quarter. I was concerned about Perry and the RBs going into this game after L’ville. They have a lot of speed at RB. Felt like any time Mobley touched the ball they made progress. But we shored that up quite quickly, T-Will was all over the guys on the sidelines, loved seeing his intensity.
  • The penalties were not missed lol. I mean one pretty egregious PI call but overall super clean, especially from the OL.
  • JRP is a freak. Seriously, I don’t know if we’ve ever had this kind of raw athletic ability at QB since DC. Maybe Godfrey is the closest, but Plumlee is special.

Side notes; got to chat it up with @Brandon for a minute, finally met the man behind the madness of this forum lol. We were both excited to see Boomer make a damn FG. Also got a fist bump from KZ, who was on the sidelines seemingly the entire game. Most notable, a friendly nod from the legend himself, Mr. Daunte Culpepper, who was walking around the back of the endzone. What a massive human being lol.

Hopefully, we can parlay this into another win against GT, and then go into conference play against SMU with momentum.

They need to get a bit progressive, like in Baseball where errors are tracked, adjust statbooks to have WR "drops" count against the WR and not the QB. Keep the QB stats, but include a number for WR drops. Completion % better represents QB accuracy if this is done, even if foot-noted. Especially when it comes to awards, etc.
Baseball has stats like number of hits by moon phase date time and weather forecast.

Hes the only one to hit a single the last 5 times on a 50%chance of rain on a waxing moon. After 8pm EST.

-meaning he struckout the last 4 day games but every 15 days or so this year he hit a single in a late night game.

JRP overall big upgrade from last game. Look for even more improvements. We could run the table from here if he improves at the same rate heading into conference

At what point did the FAU crowd start to leave ? They were pretty cocky and loud early on.

We were missing our best LB against the run and it showed early on until the replacements stepped up as the game progressed. I really like how the LBs were cutting through the gaps and making plays in the 2nd half.

This team is definitely improving each week. Special teams much improved :)
Our running game has 4 work horses: JRP, Bowser, Richardson and Harvey. On top of that they have Townsend and Okeefe as ATHs in the backfield :)

One more victory in September and I'd say we have a good shot at having a very good season with a possible 13-1 season? It is definitely a growing process here but I like the talent on the field.

Agreed that JRP is very talented. But let's not overreact to great games against the FCS and FAU's of the world, especially when we see lackluster performance against mid tier opponents like Lou. This was my concern with DG, who beat up the bottom feeders but never beat Tulsa, Pitt, a much weaker and vulnerable Cincy or Memphis. (not interested in excuses about bad defense or missed field goals... KZ and other excellent QBs win in high scoring games without excuses).

I'll get excited about JRP if he leads us to victory against the teams that are a more significant challenge.

UCF has their own stats/grades for drops, missed blocks, mis reads, etc...so does PFF.com (subscription) who grades every UCF player. Brandon then posts those grades in the Dungeon on a weekly basis.

It's just combinations of stats which are officially kept. Box score, start time, weather, date (from which you can derive moon phase or lots of other goofy stuff), location, indoor/outdoor, etc. You can do this in any sport, and they do. Remember when the Bucs had never won when the kickoff temperature was under 40 degrees? Or all the "on monday night" stats? Or kickers indoor vs outdoor?

The BOX score at the end of a game, which I have been talking about since the start, does not have "rain in the third quarter", or "field is wet" etc. I have never seen those on a scoreboard.

Those are game notes.

Anyway...splitting hairs here I feel because you know exactly what I mean. 🤣

I still do not believe WR drops, where it was right on the money, should count against a QB, or it should be better footnoted as part of a BOX score, like errors in baseball being part of the BOX score, and often shown on a scoreboard.

Anyway, moving on as this has been... Fun. 😎

We got way off track, but I think I get it now. Add drops to the box score. Makes sense. I'm sure there's some official way to count them other than what gets done here where people argue about brick hands vs throwing too hard, etc.

Same happens with INTs on tipped balls.

Its easier in baseball since it's more of an individual sport rather than a team sport, in the sense that one person's ability to do their job (catch a ball, throw to the right base, etc), isn't as much affected by the other players on your team.

In football people argued all season here about the throw/tip/INT at the end of the Louisville game last year.

I guess the point is that it's a team sport and all stats have to be looked at that way.

Not to overlook GT but SMU will be a real test. They look like the real deal in the AAC.

SMU is my favorite for conference aside from UCF. I strongly feel they will be in AAC champ game.
The thing that makes football enjoyable to me is all the variables associated with winning. Injuries, player depth, do the players improve as the season progresses, coaching, disclipline and even luck. It truly is a ground acquisition game with demanding logistics.
