HOUSTON, Texas. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF continues a stretch with eight of nine games on the road with a series at Rice starting Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Saturday's matchup at Reckling Park between the former C-USA foes begins at 5 p.m. ET before the series is rounded out at 2 p.m. ET Sunday.
The starters for the first two contests have been set. Freshman Cre Finfrock (1-0, 3.00 ERA, 19 K) goes up against the Owls' lefty Joe Duplantier (0-1, 3.65 ERA, 9 K). The second game of the series has sophomore Robby Howell (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 10 K) facing Blake Fox (0-2, 4.09 ERA, 9 K), a left-hander from Rice.
The Knights (6-4) are coming off a pair of losses to No. 1 Florida in a home-and-home series. UCF fell in the series opener, 9-5, despite scoring five runs on seven hits at home. The road contest featured the Knights out-hitting the Gators, 5-3, but two for the Florida hits were round trippers in a 4-0 loss.
Rice (4-5) has faced a challenging start with wins over Dallas Baptist, Arizona, Texas State and Sam Houston State. The Owls fell twice to the Wildcats in the season opener and dropped contests to Arkansas, TCU and Louisiana Lafayette last weekend at Minute Maid Park.
