Holy hyperbole. If a crime doesn't exist then you are found innocent. You're acting as though the authorities shouldn't investigate anything unless they are 100% certain that a crime took place. At this point, there is reason to believe that something illegal could have happened based on evidence derived from investigating others who were guilty. Most likely nothing happened with Trump, but don't act like this is some sort of Orwellian conspiracy. Clinton didn't commit a crime when he got a BJ in the oval office, why was there an investigation? His crime was lying, which our president is known for doing.

The country isn't moving any further to the left or right than it ever has. It's just that the extremes on each side are more activated and vocal. The country is still slightly center-right, with varying aversions to corruption, right-wing extremism, socialism, and authoritarianism.
