What shoes are out there similar to the Sketchers leather ones that last longer? I don't need fancy dress shoes just nice looking casual shoes. These sketchers just don't last long enough maybe 9 months to a year or so. The sole just fell of my shoe as I went to leave.

They're all made in the same factory in China, but I've had great luck with my Timberlands.

Cole Haan or Johnston and Murphy make similar ones that are made better. Well cost you a bit but they'll last longer.

If you're going to buy something like cnsa said, make sure you get them at least half off. They're not really worth full retail and you can find them marked down everywhere. Amazon and Nordstrom Rack (online or in store) usually have those kind of shoes for probably less than you paid for the worse ones.

I also appreciate your qualifier. If anyone here was going to recommend fancy, their opinion would already be invalid.

Duct tape that shit.

But seriously all about the crocs. Wear these bitches to work every Friday

I second Johnston and Murphy on anything. Great shoes.

Sketchers are made for high school band kids and other assortments of overweight virgins.

For what you do, I would go Timberlands for the best combination of style and durability. Johnston and Murphys are nice as are the Cole Hahn's, but they are more suited for an office rather than an in the field kind of durability.

I wouldn't wear another pair of Johnston & Murphys if someone paid me. I have owned a couple pairs (black and brown) of J&M and they haven't held up to my rigorous (*), strenuous (*) office job. My Cole Haans have fared better, but there's an annoying squeak in the right shoe since about six months after I bought them. I'm all about Allen Edmonds if you're going for a reasonably priced dress shoe (with leather soles).

Thread about shoes? You all need to surrender your man cards.
What's next? Pants that make your azz look better? Smh

When your shoes die, you go to the first store you can find and grab whatever is cheapest.

Get two pairs and rotate them every other day. Each one will last longer.

Part of what can make shoes fail is sweat. By rotating your shoes, you allow them to fully dry out and they last longer. Even if they're not obviously wet, there's some sweat in there which is doing damage.

Put a cedar shoe tree in your shoes when not wearing them, and it will wick out the sweat even better.

What do you plan on doing in these shoes? Not hard outside work right? You've got real boots for that stuff. If this is for looking presentable to prospective clients, then I'd look at these two.

These are boots that might fit your style.

Here are some casual comfortable shoes.

I'd suggest you get your exact size and width. They make these shoes in A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE widths so you can get something that will fit your foot as close as possible.

Another thing about these shoes. There are times when we've all heard "They don't make them like they used to." Well these shoes are made like they used to be and can be resoled if you decide that you really like them after having them for a few years. But the Johnston & Murphy's, Ecco's, Skechers, Aldo's, etc. cannot be resoled. Johnston and Murphy used to be right up there with Allen Edmonds in terms of lasting quality but at some point they went with less expensive construction and material. If you're lucky, you might be able to buy factory seconds through shoebank.com. These are the same quality but there is some minor defect that you probably won't notice. The only trick is to have an unusual foot size that doesn't sell out too quickly.

Thanks but those are all awful. Look like hipster boots. I prefer low gym shoe types. Pretty much leather gym shoes.

I'm so confused why trying to find good footwear is somehow "gay"? (Also, it's 2015, you sound dumb using "gay" as an insult, put a little effort into your mocking.)

1. Health and Comfort: Considering the average man is what, just under or close to 200lbs? Finding good footwear that will last a while is very important for your joints, back problems, foot problems, etc. And spending a little more for it to last several more years is a good investment. Good shoes are made with a variety of feet in mind, not just a generalized cookie cutter idea of what a size 11 foot should be like, which means they are meant to stabilize your foot and help keep you aligned better and for longer than crappy shoes. And since the same shoes can be worn almost every day, you WANT it to be one of your clothing items you put the most thought and money into. If you were to wear only one suit jacket every day, you would go a little further in finding something that fit well, would last a long time, and looked good- why not with the clothing item that also supports your whole body?

2. Looks: I'm sorry, but every other woman I've ever talked to about Sketchers or other discount shoes says it just makes a guy look like some frat boy college kid who doesn't know anything about how to clean up nicely past what they learned at high school prom. Dingy has a pair of Clarks Desert Boots and whenever he wears them, his outfit just looks so much more polished and purposeful and put-together. They also don't cost that much and will last a long time. Shoes really do make a difference in your presentation, so unless you've packed it in for life and stopped caring, I think it is smart to put some effort into the shoes you buy. That doesn't mean no sneakers, but if you're going to wear sneakers to work, make them look a little more fashionable than something you could buy at a Footlocker outlet store.

Frankly, I think if you work at an office and go out with any sort of frequency, this is a great guide: http://www.menshealth.com/style/5-shoes-every-guy-should-own

As far as the actual question, these have gotten good reviews and look similar to the Sketchers, but better (in my opinion): http://www.zappos.com/caterpillar-neder-canvas-black

And this is clearly all just my opinion, so don't take it as fact. Unless it proves useful, than I expect acknowledgement and an apology.

Get you some Doc Martens low tops. Cheap. Comfortable. Last forever. Look great. Ladies love them on a guy. You can wear them to the office and not have to worry about screwing up your foot if you need to repeatedly kick someone on the sidewalk outside the bar on your happy hour.

Sketchers are for tourists or cheap people without style. There are so many other options out there, especially if you have normal-width feet (unfortunately, my hubby does not).

If you're looking for something that won't wear out quickly, consider Red Wings. They're known for their construction boots, but they make some really nice, durable shoes nowadays. They have everything from chukkas (desert boot-like) to low top leather shoes.

My hubby got a pair of their low leather work shoes over a year ago and they're still going strong. They're not cheap, but they absolutely last and wear well. The leather is thick and the soles are sewn on.

Stop being a cheap ass and just buy new shoes every 9 months like a normal person.
