Going for it! Thoughts on going for 2 and on 4th down

I'm all for going for it on 4th down almost always. Think the math makes sense. But going for 2 in the 1st quarter just looks crazy. I'm sure all the players loved that aggressive. What are the fans thinking?

I like the idea. It makes you unpredictable and agressive. Gives other teams more to prepare for.

It was the first drive of the game...and Frost wanted to send a message to all his players. Message received.

Chip Kelly did that a lot at Oregon (going for 2 after first TD of the game...especially if it came early in the game).

The current Oregon Coach got in trouble in a game a week ago...when, deep into the game...they went for 2 FIVE TIMES...going just 1-5...and those lost pts ended up making the difference in a close loss.

I think the opponent, time and place (UCF coming off a heart break OT loss...a game where UCF "could have gone for 2 and the win" but didn't), vs an 0-3 (now 0-4) FIU team...it was a good spot to do it.

Almost missed it as the euphoria of an opening TD cheered me up and was only slightly paying attention while reaching for my drink. Then- "Damn! This isn't predictable football anymore." I liked it and hope it gives some concerns to AAC opponents.

Thought going for two was a great move. I fully expected us to try and stomp FIU to send a message to south florida recruits and also do things like this to excite them. Felt like Frost was trying to demoralize FIU early.

Yep. ECU has to spend part of their week preparing for these bizarre 2 point conversion scenarios that could happen at any point in the game, but we probably won't use. Less time for them to prepare to stop Adrian Killins and others.

Frost going for 2 in the first is going to become common place once he feels that his team is firing on all cylinders, especially if he thinks his team is the better of the two. That's the aggressive Chip Kelly in him. There is nothing more demoralizing than giving up a two point conversion or a team converting on 4th down when a normal opponent will punt. It's all about asserting your will and beating the other teams confidence in the dirt early.

You will learn to appreciate Frost for his never take the foot off the throat mentality. UCF is a sleeping giant with Frost at the helm. A guy who loves tempo speed and aggressiveness in the heart of Florida. Scary thoughts for your conference indeed... GBR

Personally I'm all for the aggressive play calling.

Like most UCF fans, my biggest complaint was it seemed like we tried not lose rather than trying anything to win.

Both the offense and the defense have been aggressive. I love it!

I like it as long as it works and scores! I think post game comments Frost said something like, "I want the players to be aggressive and also the coaches."

Frost knows his teams are going to score a lot of points. Going for 2 on the opening score is all mental. Let everyone know you're going to be aggressive. If you don't get it, who cares? You're planning on scoring a bunch of more times anyway. You'll get it back. If you make it, let your opponent know that even if they answer with a TD of their own, they're still losing unless they get their own 2 point conversion.

I like it. We've never had an aggressive offense. Urban Meyer does the same thing. He doesn't want to win, he want's to beat teams up. It's a good change.
