"I hope our fans have high expectations. That's what Division I fans are supposed to be like," he said. "I hope they understand we're in a process where coaching takes over when the talent is equal.

"I'm hoping we get a lot of fans go to Wisconsin and Penn State and see what it's like there. That's where we want to be in three years."

If i wasnt mistaken there's a couple of huggers on here that insist when GOL was hired to not expect much because he's building a program up. Anything beforehand and that included Culpepper and Kruczek were irrelevant. Well the quote here says otherwise.

GoL wanted Top 10. It took 10 years to reach there.

I think he set his sights high. But I also think he expected to get us a BCS conference invite within 3 years. We finally got it, only for it to be lost in short order.

Not being P5 has limited everyone in the G5, even Boise State, from what they could be. I make no excuses for this year, but the goal is always to win conference championships.

That just realism speaking. Even Boise has that goal year-in, year-out.

This is what GOL said. Did he feed you this response?
Nowhere in this quote says he wants Top 10. We're talking about fans demanding high expectations.
You always assumed because i complain about his record against the P5 that i demand Top 10 and undefeated seasons. Think what you may.

gol should go back and read his quote since just a couple days ago he called the fans spoiled. So 10 years later we are not supposed to have high expectations?

Orlando Sentinel, George O'Leary steps down as UCF interim athletics director
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...-leary-athletics-director-20151012-story.html

“You know what the challenge is, . . . [it’s] what we’re used to,” O’Leary said. “We’re used to 30 wins in the last three years and all [of a] sudden it’s like a culture shock the other way. You’re losing and so you’re trying to change that type of thing. Same with our fan base. You know, they’re basically spoiled a little bit as far as some things, and we’re going through some growing pains right now, which is what it amounts to, but the kids, you just got to everyday, go on the field and get one step better.

This is a cop out and you know that, but its easy for you to say this because you assume i want Top 5 finishes, Top 10 finishes every year. Well since i used the FSU analogy its what i want. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

Why don't we go over some of the P5 schedule teams UCF played. Can you really say we were at a disadvantage against a recruitment affected Penn State in Ireland? This team got slaughtered by Ohio two years before and the sanctions havent even started affecting them. What about 2012 Missouri? They finished 5-7. Kansas State in 2010 finished 7-6. Our bowl team NC State was 7-5. By the way you talk we're scheduling body bag games year in and year out. Thats not the case. We have been put into many winnable situations against the P5 and failed.

I guess they dont listen to me though because all thats important is conference championships. Damn what AAC commmissioner Aresco says. He says he wants his teams beating P5 squads. What do some of the UCF players say. Apparently they agree with you.

9/24/10 Orlando Sentinel -
UCF players view the Knights' (2-1) game at Kansas State (3-0) on Saturday as a second chance. It's another opportunity to beat a team from an automatic qualifying Bowl Championship Series conference.

"We came off a tough loss against N.C. State, which was another good BCS team, and I think we really needed a victory," senior defensive end David Williams said. "This is a really important game for us to show what we can do competition-wise against some of the biggest teams in the country. … It's going to put us to the test and show what kind of team we are."

9/24/10 Orlando Sentinel -Derrick Hallman "Big opportunity," Hallman said of the game. "We always talk about national recognition. This is a huge opportunity. We can't let it pass."

UCF today 9/25/10 -
“It was a game where we felt we had it in our grasps and couldn’t finish again,” said senior defensive end Bruce Miller, comparing the defeat of the home loss against NC State two weeks earlier. “We talked about all of the shoulda, coulda, wouldas and how we didn’t want it to come down to that again. We just didn’t make the plays at the end and that’s why we lost the game.”

The loss will go down as one of the all-time heartbreakers for the Knights considering how they pulled the Big-12-affiliated Wildcats around most of the day. UCF outgained K-State, 344-272, and had nine more first downs.

How about commentary like - The celebration was on and the monkey was off the back. No more can anyone tells us we haven’t won a bowl game. No more can anyone say we didn’t beat a BCS team in a bowl. No more can anyone say we are dreaming to believe we can be in the top 25 at season’s end. Because now we can believe, dreams come true. UCF beating Georgia in the 2010 Liberty Bowl.

I thought thats why we brought in O'Leary. I thought thats what he meant by expectations.

Those 30 wins aren't that remarkable because our conference was usually weak. I mean congrats for winning it. Sure when youre a young program its a good confidence builder, but to call us spoiled because were good at winning the 7th or 8th best conference in college football is a spin job to the highest order and one that can be easily minimize - conference expansion anyone? Its simply not true. Isnt our goal to be consistent winners against everyone? Well he failed. Now we're in the midst of another 0-12 season and people want to keep him because of three good years, but they ignore the disappointing seven years beforehand.

Hitts own words were, I would hope we could crack the top 25 at some point. Job done

As for keeping him, I hope he steps down and the New AD can start fresh. Will that move us forward?? Who knows. Hiring a new coach is always a crap shoot.

I went to both of those games. Hell, for Wisconsin, I had to change flights to leave from Atlanta because of Francis. $$$$ Hotels in State College ain't cheap on game weekends $$$$.

We got waxed both games. Thanks George.

Any of you hugers that have an argument against what came from the horses mouth is even worse than a huger: you're an apologist and nobody should take any of you seriously.

A 13 year sample has proven that O'Leay failed to meet the expectation set by O'Leary himself. He's done. He needs to go. Right now, he's a cancer that's dividing a fan base and burying a program.

Where are our fans and supporters? We've won multiple conference championships and even a BCS bowl yet we still fail to fill the stadium not to mention donor contributions remain relatively stagnant. If you want better coaches (or prevent good ones from leaving for more money), better facilities, and better recruitment, then fork over some money. Our Gator/Seminole run state government is not helping UCF out in any way. It is up to the alum to increase support of the school's athletics. There are Offensive Coordinators out there making what GOL makes. Yes, you can probably find a young coach that may or may not make a difference to the program for equal to or less than what GOL makes. Or you can go hire some proven coordinators for head coach to run at least one side of the ball. But if you want to keep the best, you need to pay for them. So, STFU if you think hiring a new coach is going to make any difference without putting money where your mouth is.

Dont preach to the choir with this BS. It's an institutional problem, not a fan problem.

UCFAA has no idea what it's doing when it comes to donor appreciation in the mid-level and how to garner more donors from lower pools. UCFAA is also horrible at their communications and marketing.

Don't ignore the fact that UCF is too young and in a too diverse location to have 'small town' bandwagon fans like UF or FSU.

You're such a simpleton.
