Marc says there will be some "taste of fall weather" this weekend at Temple. GOL wants to say this right away:
"We've got to get some things straight here. We're gonna be fine. Everybody panics at the university and this fanbase, but we're gonna be fine. There's a plan to get out of it. This university is too big and the program is too good to not continue to be good."
Back at it this week.
"It's the same problems, it's dropped balls. We're two of 12 on third down. Six of the drops occurred on third down which would have led to first downs. It's a matter of keep working and staying positive with them. Getting them to sustain. That's the problem with young kids. You get to third or fourth quarter and they don't understand it's a 60-minute game."
On Spurrier:
"I knew something was up. He said it's tough to coach these kids. I said yeah. The problem is when a coach can't get a team to play with toughness, grit and passion you want, you can't win. Especially when you have older kids. When you have younger kids, you hope the light comes on. It's growing pains, That's what's going on here. People don't understand. Don't panic. We're fine. We're going through growing pains. Nobody hates to lose more than I do. I understand we have to get things corrected and we're working our tails off to get it corrected."
More on Steve:
"He's probably at the point where he doesn't feel he's reaching the kids. I have a great respect for what he stands for. He's one I always thought did it the right way. I think he's one that did it the way you're supposed to do things. I like guys always throwing jabs at people. It hink that's fun. Always got a kick out of him."
More on the young players:
"I changed practice habits this week. I'm working the first string most of the time, second string isn't getting reps until Wednesday. They have to push themselves harder in the second half. I see too many lay-down plays. The only way to get them to understand is working them harder in practice. That's the key to coaching, getting kids to do things they don't want to do. Practice tempo has been outstanding this week. I've been happy, but I had to change what we're doing. I said how many of these second teamers are playing on Saturday? None. Why are we playing them during the week? Right away you see kids who tire and don't finish. It's that third quarter, fourth quarter, same things happen in practice."
Injuries:
"Taj McGowan is back. I was hoping Cedric would be back. He didn't practice otday, hopefully tomorrow. As we get them back, we'll be a better team. Some of the kids out there, they're just not good enough. The kid who stepped back in the end zone. I cut my ear ripping the headset off my ear. They're walk-ons, they don't know. I blame the guy telling him to stay in. It's new. The kid did a good job during the week. You go over those things... If they're in the paint, keep them in. He was right on the cusp of it. He could have taken it out. The big thing is he started out and the guy is going like this and he steps back and takes a knee. He knows now, but it's a play late.
Commercial break.
