GOL wanted to avoid a deflected pass

Dr. Hitt needs to grow a pair and get rid of George.

I think, in order to avoid losing more games (and fans), we need to move on! Do we wait until we get a winless season?

The last two sentences represent the flaw with your argument. There hasn't been a consistent lack of success that would justify firing GOL.

Dr Hitt was responsible for recommending Tulane into the Big East and thus provoking the secession of the seven basketball schools and the loss of the name. He needs to be removed and arrested.*

The same Tulane that's a top 50 academic institution? Again there's more then football when building a conference, Tulane is not great on the football side but they bring an academic profile that you see in every major conference. Is it also known that Tulane was the reason for the split, haven't seen a link saying that?

So the qualification for getting into the AAC is how well your nerds do in the quiz bowl? I'm sorry - I'd rather win on the football field than at Jeopardy.

All of this "student athlete" crap is bunk. When 95% of college football players are enrolled in hummanity or sociology as a major you know it's not about academics, lets be real here.

So why has Vanderbilt been in the SEC as long as it has? Wake Forest or Duke in the ACC? Northwestern in the Big 10? It's just the way it is with conferences, you have your power houses to keep the football profile up and your AAU schools to keep your academic profile up. Tulane is the only school in the AAC that is also an AAU member, might not mean much to you but it's a huge deal for the conference.

Its not just about education for these kids. Its the confidence and self-esteem they get from knowing they graduated from a University with a 4 year degree so they can go out into the real world and be successful. Many of them would not have had the opportunity if not for football. Graduation is a huge deal.

Does anyone really think Tulane was the basketball side left? Insane. They were whiny for years. Like adding UCF and Houston or whoever excited them. They lost everybody and got C-USA basketball teams. I bet they were sooo excited getting them. They were probably gone as soon as everyone announced they were leaving the Big East.

LOL, so now we're down to just graduating. Also, inviting Tulane does noting for UCFs graduation rates.

Wow really? So all you care about are wins and loses and not what these kids do in the classroom? I might not like what GOL does on the sidelines each week but there's no denying the guy has taken this program to the next level on and off the field. It's the attitude of all that matters is wins is what's wrong with this fanbase, we aren't that entitled yet and graduating these kids should be more important then that anyway. Go cheer on a pro team if that's all you want.

The western schools left after we neglected them for Tulane. Rice is also a top academic school in a better market. We should have secured our western division (6 schools of San Diego State, Fresno State, Colorado State, Air Force, UNLV, New Mexico, Boise State, BYU) which would have virtually guaranteed an Access Bowl every year for the conference or stayed at 10 members. Tulsa and Tulane were not worth going to 12. More money for everyone.

So much diarrhea in this post. Of course we care about wins and loses. It is what brings attention to the program. You want us to be F_U?

Lol, what benefit is another 85 sociology majors to society? As Occupy Wallstreet has taught us, the field you choose to get your degree in also matters. If it was about academics in any way, shape, or form, you wouldn't see the majority of the team majoring in the absolutely easiest things they can just to maintain their duty as a "student" athlete per the NCAA.

The fact is, it IS about W-L's and nothing else. You don't brag at the end of the year that you were last place on the field, but off the field you all got straight A's in country line dancing (an actual class Kevin Smith was enrolled in).

I don't want GOL to bring in a bunch of undisciplined thugs, but I couldnt care less if they graduate with 4.0's or 2.0's.

Is there any proof we could've got all those schools to join the conference? Tulane and Tulsa are West, just not west coast. Travel for the rest of the conference would've been a nightmare. Tulane and Tulsa are the top two academic schools in the conference, have the highest endowment and are close to Memphis, Houston and Dallas, they make some sense in that regard. If it was known that the choice was both those schools or all those west ones and we went Tulane and Tulsa I can see the issue but I doubt we could've got them all.

Well Boise and San Diego State bailed immediately after Tulane joined. Is that enough proof? Only Houston and SMU would have had to go west.

East
UConn
Temple
Navy
ECU
UCF
USF
Cincinnati
Memphis

West
Houston
SMU
Colorado State
Air Force
UNLV
San Diego State
Fresno State
BYU/Boise State/New Mexico

That effective neuters the MWC giving us the Access bowl and it's payout every year. Much better football and basketball and thus a high television contract.

They left because they knew the AQ spot was leaving. They also knew that it would become a best of the G6 and they'd have a better shot at that staying where they were. The cost of travel for all the Olympic sports would have went up if they stayed. It was more a best chance to get the G6 bid, and save on travel not because they added Tulane.

Still don't know why Tulane is the school that ruined everything for everyone? Sure they don't have much success in football but are in a good recruiting state, big TV market and like I've said an AAU member. It's not like we went out and got Middle Tennessee state.

It all kind of crashed when Tulane joined which is why they get blamed. Fairly or unfairly. The conference was shaping up to be an excellent group of G5 schools that were nationally relevant in football, basketball or in big markets. Tulsa and Tulame did not fit with the rest of the schools. They are both good schools, they just don't fit into our conference.

I just read his justification for the play calling.
That and he wanted to avoid Holman taking a sack.
It's that "I'll stay in bed to avoid getting sick" mentally that I can't stand. Get some balls George.
A sack or pick could have killed us. And a deflected pass would have stopped the clock. Fine. No argument on that "principal."

But by George ... get inside the f'ing 20!!! Give the young, inexperienced kicker a good chance! That's what bothered me! "25 yards ... a PAT ... a chipshot." Ah ... no George, add 17 yards.

Even at 23 yards, +17 yards is 40 yards. Not a PAT. Not a chipshot.

Heck, FIU had a deflected pass go for a TD! Not all of the unknown is negative. One thing that everyone in that stadium and watching at home knew is that we had zero success running the ball and our kicker had zero experience kicking FGs in college ball. So let's put all our eggs in that basket. Smart.

It's just damage control. Would he do it over again the same way? Noooooo!

Yeah ..., a deflected pass could occur. So could a sack, interception , etc. in principal. However, after what I saw leading up to that point, I'll take my chances with Holman passing it with no interceptions to the 2 receivers with 18 catches.

I wish we would have picked them up! At least they would have added some value to the conference.
Middle Tenn State has solid teams in both football and basketball and is part of the Nashville TV market.

If they wanted academic success join the Ivy League or they shouldve invited Rice instead. The football team has improved lately, the Rice/Houston match up would've continued and Rice baseball seems to do well without the help of other sports. Tulsa seems to be on an island in this conference and if Tulane really wanted to improve their facilities let them do so in CUSA. Why can't UCF be invited to a big conference on a promise of improving our facilities? We actually had to do it first!
