GOL without Taaffe = Mediocrity

Kind of scary to think of. Prior to Taffe, GOL had losing seasons in 2004, 2006, and 2008. He only had 2 winning seasons without Taafe. 2005 and 2007. We had winning seasons in 5 of Charlie's 6 here. 2011 was the only blemish. I figured we would miss him a lot. He's a very experienced and creative coach.

Actually GOL without Taffe or Friedgen is atrocious. The numbers don't lie.

GOL with Taffe or Friedgen: 89-38, 5 conf championships, 1 losing season.

GOL without Taffe or Friedgen: 44-56, 1 conf championship, 5 losing seasons.

I'm not sure why you huggers continue to carry water for him. He isn't good without an excellent OC.

That could be said about almost any head coach in the Country. The problem is he will hang on to bad coordinators too long (Tim Salem). But its probably not fair to judge Key after one game. Hopefully he'll get better as the season goes on. I have no doubt that the three straight runs at the end of the game were all O'Leary's idea though.

This is an amazing statistic. How do people justify the performance of this idiot? GOL is not a good coach, period. He gets lucky from time to time and finds a good assistant...and then they quit because GOL won't let them do what makes us successful. When will this chapter in our lives end?

So your gripe is that he hired a competent OC?

Neither is any other program if they have shitty coordinators. So is the gripe in this thread that he made a good hire at OC with Taaffe? You're right, that is his fault. It's called a football program for a reason. Sure, someone is the face of it but any successful program has good personnel at all levels.

Just stop the hugging. Good coaches know how to be flexible and make good replacements. GOL wouldn't be at UCF without Ralph Friedgen (who has a brilliant offensive mind) and would probably have been fired if it weren't for Charlie Taffe. Now is Brent Key a Friedgen or Taffe? No! GOL has taken us as far as he can. Time to move on, please leave the keys on your desk as you leave, here is your gold watch.

Taaffe is doing color analysis for UCF games on 740 AM, sitting just a few feet away from where he sat as offensive coordinator. Do any of you find it hard to believe that no one would consult him for ideas about the offense?

Doubt it. I would be the same thing like your former employer asking for help for free.
