Great interview with Eric DeSalvo at Big XII Media Days

Lots of UCF talk to get excited about. One of my favorite parts is where Eric said he thinks we'll build a rivalry with WVU saying, "I just think its going to be electric and toxic at the same time. They're extremely passionate. We're young and we run our mouths."

There's also talk about us having a chip on our shoulders from going from D3, D2, FCS, FBS, up to the Big XII, historical and current ties to space, size, and youth.

West Virginia has been pushing for a rival in the Big 12 for years. I personally think it will be Cincinnati.

Yea I heard them mention that but it sounded like a full interview to me. I guess there was something before where this started.

Online WVU fans are bad. They say they are great and UCF sucks. I agree that should be our in conference rival as of now.

Just seems like we already have a rivalry brewing with UC. UC or make the space game a rivalry game with Houston, those 2 just make the most sense with the history. I would love to replace usf on Thanksgiving weekend with an annual space game theme with UH, I’d be open to sharing that theme with them with a trophy of some sort of space item.

An OOC rivalry with UF is certainly brewing as well, one could argue that’s cemented already. If we beat them in the Swamp in 2024, it will be full on UF whiny baby time until 2030.

My wife’s family is from Morgantown, was just there for 4th of July weekend with the family. Pretty cool college town, nice in the summer but wet, grey and cold in the winter. I was there for a week during Christmas one year and never saw the sun once, it was depressing. Most people seem nice, I heard at the tailgating they are very welcoming actually. Will soon know, but I think you have small sections of any fan base that are both passionate and a-holes. We certainly have our fair share as well.

I don't think we'll start wearing space unis at away games. Fans love seeing them in person. Might riot haha.

I remember us playing at West Virginia in 2003 and hosting them in 2004. I was at the 2004 game and it fell on 9-11. Could definitely see us developing a rivalry.

I look forward to getting to hating you all, but I think UCF’s rival won’t really happen until we add some ACC schools.

Dream candidate is Miami, right? If SEC only goes with UNC, Clemson, FSU, UVa. I don’t think that’s likely, as to execute early end of ACC means finding 6 schools a P2 spot.

But if ESPN pulled its head of its ass and went all in on Big 12 being 3rd super conference as a means to most cost effectively move top ACC to SEC, with another place to move bulk of ACC leftovers (if not all). They could repurpose ACCN as B12N, and have that network be nationwide- west, mountain west, Texas, nearly all of current ACC.

instead we’ll have to do it the hard way. Get 4-6 PAC schools, get tier 1 on NBC as lead-in to ND game, and rest of Tier 1 replacing SEC on CBS. At that point FSU and Co go madman tactic and threaten to force their way out/end the ACC, and espn just washes their hands of 4-6 ACC schools.

Glad to have you in the Big 12. You’re going to do very well in the new era of conferences. After the hill you’ve had to climb, the difference between Big 12 and P2 is nothing. You’ve been doing more with less for 25 years.
