MIAMI BEACH BOWL KICKOFF SET FOR DEC. 21 AT 2:30 P.M.
MIAMI, Fla. (May 29, 2015) - The Miami Beach Bowl has announced today that the second annual game will be played on Monday, Dec. 21, 2:30 p.m. ET at Marlins Park in Miami (Fla.). The game will feature a top team from the American Athletic Conference against a team from Conference USA and will be televised on ESPN and broadcast by ESPN Radio.
"We are eager to start promoting our game date and generating excitement among the fans of the schools in the competing conferences," said Carlos Padilla II, Executive Director of the Miami Beach Bowl. "Having a Monday afternoon kickoff will allow fans to come to Miami Beach for the weekend to enjoy our bowl events and get the holiday week started with what will be another outstanding game."
The inaugural game, which was also played on a Monday afternoon (Dec. 22, 2014), was one of the most competitive bowl games of the season. Memphis defeated BYU as the teams lit up the scoreboard for 103 combined points in the 55-48 double overtime thriller.
The American Athletic Conference expanded to 12 teams this year with the addition of Navy. The other 11 teams in the conference are: Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF and USF.
Conference USA will have 12 teams eligible for the post-season. FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion, Rice, Southern Miss, UTEP, UTSA, Western Kentucky. The 13th team in C-USA, Charlotte, moves up to the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) this year and will not be eligible for a bowl game bid.
Tickets for the 2015 Miami Beach Bowl will go on sale later this year.
