I have family here so that's why I'm up here so early. Haven't been since the football game in 2018.
Flew up on Spirit, which was perfectly fine. I actually thought the seat was more comfortable than Southwest, if that makes sense. It had more back support? The wifi was only $6 and the speed was excellent.
The nonstop offerings to MEM are less plentiful than before. Seems Southwest dropped the route and Frontier only flies on select days. I think Spirit is the only daily nonstop flight.
The crime has always been an issue here, but if you're a bit nervous I'd suggest not turning on the local news. Carjackings galore. An 80-year-old Uber driver was just murdered execution style just a couple blocks from the University of Memphis sports complex area. I made a quick drive past the Liberty Bowl and saw the memorial for the female jogger who was abducted and murdered a couple months ago.
As for local food offerings, had a late lunch at Patrick's on Park in East Memphis. "American food" with meats and veggies. Always consistent with large portions. Very good.
Had dinner at One and Only BBQ which I thought I liked from a visit back in 2018, and it's generally among the best reviewed, but it was pretty mediocre/dry. At least the pork, turkey and ribs. Sweet potato fries were the best part.
The original Corky's on Poplar is still closed for dine-in. There was a fire in February and it's still under renovation. The drive-through is open though.
Here's some shots of the Liberty Bowl.
