Finally!
This whole 'situation' pissed me off x4 + x2 over as a Libertarian, with federal authorities considering themselves 'above the law.' Even the staunchest of Progressives I knew that originally argued all sorts of views, finally came around on this ... the entire load was shady, even if they disagreed with the Oregon standoff.

First off, the entire 'charge' was suspect from the get-go, private ranchers who refused to sell their lands to the federal government, being charged with arson -- to allegedly 'cover up illegal poaching' (what?) -- when they stated they did a 'controlled burn' when the federal government failed to take care of the lands, and it wasn't their 'controlled burn' that caused the greater fire.

Secondly, after paying $400,000 and being sentenced to 5 years, a higher court ruled the 'mandatory minimums' as 'unconstitutional,' and reduced it to 3 months, which they had already completed. Then the Obama administration replaced the judge wholesale and unilaterally, and ordered them back to jail, all while still pressuring them to sell their land. Total, resulting, double-jeopardy without due process of law.

This all then resulted in the Oregon standoff. Now everyone will debate that. The only one I think everyone agrees upon is that Oregonians didn't like Nevadans coming into their state, and that's a valid complaint. 'Militias' are supposed to be state-local, and moving around to various does cause some 'tension.' That said ... how it 'went down' was pretty much like we've come to know from the Branch Dividians ...

Third ... feds get tired of waiting, politicians get trigger happy and want to enforce their will. They don't like their 'authority' challenged. People died that didn't need to, and the 'militias' laid down their arms peacefully.

Fourth, the Oregonians found the 'major actors' in the standoff 'not guilty.' In the shock and aftermath, the feds refused to let the defendants go. At reached a point where the defense attorney took great issue with that, and in trying to advise the judge, was assaulted by law enforcement who were pissed off. No law enforcement officers died or were otherwise harmed in the standoff, and yet, they assaulted a lawyer, and refused to give up custody of the defendants.

And now the worst of the two ...

Fifth, we found out later that the US federal government withheld evidence which basically caused several judges to nuke any chance of a re-trail. It was seriously damaging to the government's case that -- just like in Nevada -- government statements and justifications both in the media and the trail -- showed that the ranchers were taking far better care of the land than the BLM and others, just as the Oregon Farm Bureau and others had shown.

Once again it had become 'special interest' with 'federal gun' that thinks it can just serve corporate and other interests, but worse yet, violate Constitutional rights to see evidence and results, especially when it bolsters the defendant's case. The US federal government purposely withheld this, and thus, has no grounds to stand on in the prosecution -- as every judge has ruled on the matter since.

Sixth, failing to convict the 'major actors' in the standoff, the feds charged and convicted 'minor actors.' This just makes my stomach churn, and while the US media was all about the 'major actors,' they totally missed the fact that these 'minor actors' ended up getting far, far worse sentences for far less crime. This is just how pathetic we've become as an authoritative federal.
Don't sell your land, and this is what we'll do to take it from you. Sigh ...

Even if you're taking better care of the land than we would, and even federal lands nearby we're supposed to, and we'll cover up that evidence, even when our own scientists and researchers agree. Sigh ...

Meanwhile, we're supposed to serve non-citizens better. Sigh ...

This is 652 words. No one is here to read manuscripts. You need to be more direct and to the point.

glad this happened. gov overstepped big time. shouldve never went that far
They just over-stepped, and kept over-stepping. The Clinton-Media-Progressives are quick to play the 'bleeding heart' for anyone crossing the border, but when it comes to citizens like this who just had their Constitutional rights stripped, and repeatedly screwed over, they seem to judge them as the greatest threat to the country and that justifies an end to their rights ... among others.

What's the over/under on the number of times he idiotically over used the term "Clinton media progressives" or whatever bullshit buzzword he says.

Someone control - F it. I say at least three.

The Clinton-Media-Progressive engine is responsible for the 100% fabrication of the 'cages' non-sense.

They are also responsible for failing to do their job on the Hammonds by failing to pointing out how big business and other special interest literally rammed themselves up the rectum of the Hammonds via overnight judicial changes and continued, false narratives.

It used to be the Media protected citizens from this type of federal abuse. But now, it's serving the will of the DNC.
