Has "The Donnie Jones Era Begun...."

This year is going to be key. He's got a full roster of scholarship players with a lot of talent on paper. If he doesn't produce results on the court this year, it is time to pull the plug.

IMHO, this is the year we must see significant improvement. It should be over .500 :)

Conf Records mean more in most sports...as non-conf baseball, basketball and football can be filled mostly against weaker (in some cases, MUCH weaker) opponents.

2 years ago, UCF went 4-14 in AAC action.

Last year, UCF went 5-13.

Hopefully UCF can reach 8-10 conf wins...rebuild their home court advantage...that would be a good sign, especially with a lot of help/PT will be by Freshmen and Soph (BJ, Adonis, Fall, Brown, McSpadden and AJ Davis).

If those 5 (or others) can make strong inroads during next year...that should help pave the way for brighter years to come.

Will be interesting to see if DJ can sign a similar strong (on paper) early Nov 2015 Class like he did this past year...as that too will have big future impact (either good or bad).

Yes, I think he needs to show real improvement this year, and be competitive after that. This year I think he needs to win 4 or 5 more than last year, with 2 of those being conf games.

I don't think Tacko will be good enough in conference...the really tall guys usually get pushed around and arent athletic enough to use height to advantage..we will see though.

One could say that about almost any recruit UCF goes after and signs...as with almost all signees in Div I-A, half of them probably pan out, while the other half doesn't.

One thing that can be said about Tacko unlike some other recruits is MAJOR programs in ACC, Big 12, Big East, etc...all wanted to invest in him/sign him.

Yes, it might take a year or two for Tacko to adjust, but its well worth the risk at UCF's level...and if he can average 10-12 mins per game next year...that will be a good start for him to expand his game...especially since he just started to play organized hoops just a few years ago.

Agree 1000%

So you don't think it was worth the risk to use one scholarship for one year on a player that is actually improving each and every year...and a player from the Central FL area that teams from the ACC, Big East, Big 12, etc...all wanted to sign?

No one can predict the future...but its weird to see comments that he will never be good enough to play at the AAC level (in a few years), while teams in better/deeper conf all wanted to sign him.

If you want a guarantee that every recruit 17-18 yr old plus recruit will be a guaranteed success then you will always be disappointed.

With Billy Donovan rumored to take the Ok-City job will DeeJones be a candidate for the Gators job? (LOL, posting this just to stir the pot)

My original comment was mostly for next year...if he continues to gain strength and foot speed along with low post moves he could end up being ok

I think we can all agree that Tacko needs to put on more muscle mass. That could be an issue for him this fall against more physical players. I'm curious to see how much he'll improve with the help of the strength and conditioning staff.
