Heifers Draw 4th Smallest Crowd for a Home Opener

This is for the Heifer trolls. I couldn't resist. Ranked No 19, and the best you can do is 18k.

Wow.
Yeah, but they are 6-2 against us. Hahahahahaha. 4 of those wins were when fans actually cared about them. So.., they get 18.000 when they are "supposed" to be good

How many fans will they get if they regress again to 2013 levels?. Like after Flowers graduates.

So UCF Students (18,300 plus) alone at the Knights home opener at 6 pm on a Thur had basically the same attendance what the cows drew for their #19 ranked team from a huge metro population (1 million plus larger than Orlando) and all their fans, alumni and students put together.

#nice

The Tampa metro is not "1 million plus larger than Orlando". Where do you get your facts, man?

List of the milk cows actual home opener crowds. (They haven't even drawn 23,000 or more since 2012).

Some include Sarasota and Manatee counties
We could do the same thing by including Brevard and Volusia counties (which takes us from 2.4 million to 3.5 million
Also, Tampa Bay area is much more elderly than Orlando with a lot fewer retired who are gone half the year.

The table really underscores the decline of their football passion as a fan base since their time in the big east. Really telling is the disparity with this year and last (and only) other time they opened ranked. Also, the disparity between home openers played against FAMU.

OMG, fire charlie strong already....with a comment like this?

"They didn't surprise us. We knew what we were getting," Strong said. "As a ranked team, we're going to get everyone's best."

Thanks for finding this quote. Especially when they are soon to be unranked! Strong is going through is list of oldies but goodies excuses that Longhorn fans got sick of hearing.

I like Charlie's other quote during the 1st Q of the game:
"Where the F is everybody? "
Funny, because that's what the former Houston coach was thinking during his first game with the Longhorns. Also, "Charlie, did you teach these guys to choke the way your team did in the second half against UCF back in 2013?"

Someone with half a brain could see these numbers and realize that paying an FCS team to come play in the opener is probably not the best business decision. Are they really making any money drawing 20,000 to play Towson, FAMU, Western Carolina, and Stony Brook?

They've only opened at home against ONE FBS team, and it was Ball State in 2011. Who the hell is running that athletic department?

Actually, playing a I-AA team for your home opener is smart as for most teams, they still draw well since fans have been without football for 8-9 months.

Now playing Maine in Week 5, now that will be hard to draw a crowd for. (unless UCF has already upset both Ga Tech and Maryland).

at that point in the season, UCF will be the walking wounded and lots of 3rd stringers won't have gotten much playing time (if those Sept games are nail bitter close). So the Maine game can be a real palate cleanser.

Are you saying that USF is making money on the Stony Brook game after paying TSA for the stadium rental, paying game day operational expenses, and paying Stony Brook to come play, all with only 18,302 in attendance - many presumably students?

For many teams, sure it's a good decision. But for USF, it's clearly not drawing. Their ONLY opener ever against an FBS team drew nearly double what Stony Brook did.

usf doesn't draw for anyone but UCF and FSU. They barely drew 16,000 for homecoming game last year vs ECU.

Here was the Cows actual attendance per game for last 2 years:

2015:
USF vs FAMU Actual 21,928 (largest crowd of the season)
USF vs Memphis Actual 14,305
USF vs Syracuse Actual 18,039
USF vs SMU Actual 15,157
USF vs Temple Actual 18,470
USF vs Cincinnati Actual 18,889

2016 (greatest season ever, 2nd place in the AAC East Division)
Vs Towson: Actual: 22,626
Vs NIU: Actual: 27,566
Vs FSU: Actual: 52,485
Vs ECU (Homecoming) Actual: 16,585
Vs UCONN: Actual: 19,524
Vs Navy: Actual: 25,904
Vs UCF: Actual: 30,517

I understand that they don't draw anyone. Since that's the baseline expectation, is it the right choice to pay your opponent to come play? They could go home/home with another G5 program and at least save themselves some money for when 18,000 people show up.
