Pat's up in State College and was interviewing James Franklin in-person. They started talking about Nick Saban and Franklin reminded McAfee that he had coached in the SEC against Saban. McAfee seemed surprised at first and asked, "Where?" Franklin said, "I was the head coach at Vanderbilt." At that point, McAfee seemed to remember and then asked, "Did you coach with Herb Hand?" Apparently, Hand was the TE and Special Teams coach at WVU when McAfee played there. They then went on for a few minutes swapping Herb Hand stories, including how much Hand loves beer. McAfee said there's some bar in Morgantown that allows people to get their name on the wall if they are the fastest to finish a bucket of beers (or something like that). He said that he'd go in there frequently and would constantly see Hand's name at the top of the leaderboard (with a better finishing time each time).

Franklin told the story of Herb Hand auditioning for "Chopped." He said that Hand came up to him after auditioning and told Franklin that he'd made the cut. Franklin told him something like, "You have to do it!" Then Hand confided that filming would occur during a gameweek. Franklin said he then told him, "You can't do it." But, Hand did it anyway and Franklin was relieved because Vandy still won that week despite not having Hand on the sideline.

Anyway, it was a pretty funny conversation and Hand seems like a really cool dude (not that we didn't already know that).
