Nothing is wrong with MM. Heupel put Mack in because EZU is garbage. This accomplishes multiple things

1) Gives MM a well deserved mid season rest, keeps him healthy/recovers fully from minor injury

2) Gives Mack some great experience in clutch situation. He gets to start a game, not play 4th quarter garbage time. This could be invaluable later on if we actually lose MM in a real game.

Love it.

"ECU head coach Scottie Montgomery said it was unexpected to not face Milton, saying UCF did a great job of hiding the apparent injury all week. Montgomery also admitted it took some adjusting to handle the larger Mack, who also had a long TD run in the fourth quarter called back on a holding penalty."

Plus it shows that we can beat our oldest rival on the road with a backup true freshman. They won’t but pollesters should take notice.

So based upon the ECU Coach's comments, CJH played this close to the vest perfectly.......

I don’t want to hear again that Mack looks lost or doesn’t want to be out there. That’s so subjective.

What QB runs over defenders time and time again and sacrifices his body for 120 yards (could have been a ridiculous 200+) who doesn’t want to be out there?

Would love to see a video of all his runs

This was some amazing coaching. The players knew, they had to of known in order to prepare. Mack’s parents were at the game, Milton’s mom was not. Everyone who needed to know, knew.

This means that Heupel was able to get his whole team and staff on board. Not a leak, not a peep, not a credible rumor. Even as the game started we were all without a clue.

The respect he must have among the players in order to pull this off is incredible. A great coach can get these kids to buy in, and they did. What a high level of trust.

I remember hearing the same complaints when it was Frost's first year. Considering we're still undefeated t is a great thing and the offense will be a well old machine after a full season. It's gonna take time for players and coaches to figure everything out. McCrae looked great up the middle.

unless they wanted to continue the ruse after the game, in the post game interviews Titus Davis said he didn't know until Mack went out there for the snap and Mack said he didn't know until after they went back to the locker room after warm ups. Also Mack's parents and coaches were at the game because ... wait for it ... Norfolk is a 2hr drive to Greenville.

Forgot he was from VA. Really cool he got to play that game. Parents have to be proud as hell today

I think they would want to keep the ruse up. Now the rest of our schedule will have to prepare for two quarterback scenarios instead of just one.

Regardless, it showed gumption and the team is stronger for it.

Yep, another good point. Heup proved that he has no qualms playing the backup the entire game, proving he is a legit option, increases the amount of film other teams have to watch, possibly taking a bit of focus off of MM.

Love it all the way around.

Could you imagine what the talking heads would say if a so called top 4 team barely beat an unranked team with their backup QB with his first start? They would say how deep the P5 conferences are and they just know how to win. We get nothing. Not a mention.

I wouldn't put it like that, exactly. He just wasn't going to use KZ unless he absolutely had to.

I feel bad for Mack. In this, and previous games, he's had TDs called back due to penalties. He's also had receivers dropping passes that would have led to big plays/TDs. But, he's also been off target many times, and last night, he was saved numerous times by penalties on the defense, i.e. pass interference.

If it weren't for that dumb Tebow move in the red zone, we might very well have lost that game. Mack wasn't clicking. ECU was charging down the field getting ready to make it 23-17, and with all the momentum. If they had scored that TD, I fully expect Mack to come out and go 3 and out on the next drive (especially with the way Heupel was play calling) and give them the ball back with enough time on the clock to make you pucker your butthole.

Defense saved us last night on both sides. Ours for getting the turnovers. Theirs for committing the timely penalties.
