Tenn ranked #6 with Bama coming to town. Heupel's big test coming up. I'm torn who I'm pulling for....

"The school hired former University of Central Florida athletic director Danny White, who in turn hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel. The team was better than expected in 2021, and now, just a year later, the Vols look nationally elite. That it seems a bit unlikely — but not impossible — that the Vols can conquer Bama tells you just how astonishingly fast the turnaround in Knoxville has been."

If tennesee wins, DW can claim national champs just to piss off bama fans and id be ok with it

If Bryce Young plays I think it will be too much for UT defense and Bama will get stops defensively. If Young is still out it could be a good one.

If Tennessee wins, Heupel can lose all the rest and he will still be highly regarded in Knoxville. Don't think it happens this year, but wouldn't be surprised Heupel breaks the Alabama streak during his tenure.

Alabama has won the last 15 meetings, by an average of 26 points. Only twice the game was decided by single digits.

Honestly the game last year was pretty competitive into the 4th quarter. Think it was 31-24 and Bama converted a 3rd and 15 deep in their own territory for a touchdown. Then they tacked on a couple more garbage TDs after UT desperation drives fell short.

Bama has looked vulnerable multiple games but have a feeling it could be of those angry ‘we are still here’ performances.

Folks, this is a big one. Bianci had a poll of who wishes Huepel well or something. Thoughts?

I mean he was driving UCF into the ground with zero recruiting and zero personality. But I hate Bama so...hmmm

I hate Heupel due to the Boca Bowl. But, geez, who likes Nick Saban?

My mom lives in Knoxville and is a huge Tenn fan.

Me, not so much. But, Since UCF plays Thursday night, I'm open to watch other teams on Saturday.

If Heupel beats Bama that would be huge. It's hard to think they will though.

I have Bama fatigue but I don’t hate Saban. He is the ultimate statesman Coach who doesn’t put his foot in his mouth w ignorant comments or behavior like Dabo and other coaches

I’ve got no hate for Heup. Honestly, the respect he showed by going and speaking at Otis’s funeral won him a lot of points with me.

That said, he never seemed to fit here. I appreciated 2018, but he couldn’t connect with local high schools and really struggled with recruiting. The Shannon situation where he was forced on him probably didn’t help.

I wanted him out and I got my wish. I think he just fits better somewhere like Knoxville or Oklahoma. So I wish him well and hope he’s successful.

He was fired at Oklahoma. Don’t think he feels at home there anymore.

Not even the "they bought all their players" thing?
Funny when people mention that big schools like Ohio State and Alabama bought players. Programs that are juggernauts that have coaching staffs filled with top notch coordinators, position coaches, analysts, top facilities, and constantly churn out NFL drafted players need to pay a recruit to convince them to join.

Or, as a Dolphins fan, the “I’m not gonna be the Alabama coach… I‘ve been saying it over and over and over again” thing. That’s why I’ll always root against him

i'm rooting for heupel because i clearly underestimated him based on the negative trendline of UCF under his leadership. that's why Danny White is such a good AD, he knows coaching talent when he sees it.
He’s in a better spot there than here. Mainly because Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia have recruiting advantages over the rest of the SEC east. Tennessees problem the last 20 years has never been lack of talent. And I think Heupel can get results when he has a talented team. Here the question around him was based on what seemed like an inability to get the talent.

It's much easier for him to recruit at Tennessee. The Vols is the top choice for most recruits in the state.
Knoxville is an AWESOME small city too btw. Super awesome atmosphere the whole weekend in and around the city, I was really impressed with the Gameday feel. UT is the only big time university in the state (sorry Memphis) and they really show up, good or bad.
