My prediction is the hire will be a curve ball. Somebody no one sees coming. Many have posted lists of coaches they would like to see get hired here, somehow, I believe the administration will hire somebody that wasn't on any of our lists. I know there are several good candidates out there that are head coaches of MAC schools, but would a move to the American be considered a lateral move? Sure the pay would probably be better if they came here, but would someone like Toledo's coach want a pay raise, or would he hold out for a prestige and pay raise and try to get a job in the P5.
Also, I'm just guessing, but I don't think we will be the only American teams looking to replace coaches at the end of the year. My guess is that Memphis and probably Temple will be looking for a new head coach. I don't see Fuente being a lifer at Memphis, and I believe there will be some solid opportunities for him come the end of the year (Illinois, USC, South Carolina, Miami) and Matt Rhule might get some serious offers as well.

I like Houston Nutt, but that's just me, and yes, I have bee told that he would be a terrible hire.

I say not this year. Maybe Fuentes but definitely not Rhule. Keep in mind his prized QB is still a Junior and Rhule's overall record isnt that impressive...yet.
