"My expectation is he’ll be a candidate for the job when it comes open. We’ll see whether… again we’ve got a decision to make then as to whether he’s the guy or just one of the guys who we are looking at.”

He did say that Key is well regarded which I guess he had to say. But it sounds like Hitt is going to watch Key like a hawk. If Key continues to suck, then Hitt is going to go in a different direction.

Hitt is smart. Therefore.., Key will not be the new coach. How about Mario Cristobal?

Hitt is not smart. Hiring GOL in the first place was not smart.

We got 4 championships and a BCS win out of O'leary, so yes it was a good hire. That said I don't like the O'leary tryout at the AD position since he doesn't understand social media, dealing with fans, etc. I also don't like having a "head coach in waiting" that has been involved with the worse position segment. If O'leary wants to retire soon, I completely understand but all hiring options need to be on the table. Get a good FCS coach or maybe even someone like UL-Lafayette coach. Not sure if getting Fuente from Memphis is possible? Give him $2 million per year, no state taxes, and Florida recruiting.

Enough of Cristobel. His only success was because of a Rutgers QB transfer and Hilton. He built nothing at FIU. 1 player is not success. After they left, FIU turned back into FIU.

Get your facts straight. The QB was not very good and he was from Mississippi St. Wesley Carrol was his name. Also, they had nothing at all to work with, were a new program and had a few good wins like against Louisville, UCF, etc. He recruited well and helped develop talent. The offense was exciting and the defense made big plays.

The team was so much more than just Hilton. If you remember your facts, he got hurt vs. us and they still won.

He's now the offensive line coach at Alabama for Nick Saban. Saban knows a little bit about winning and coaching/coaches

By the way..., did you happen to see the play of Alabama's offensive line?Probably not.

Have you seen ours? Couldn't miss it really

FIU went to a bowl game which says a lot.
They also gave Marshall a run which says at least something for a very new program. He's a coveted hidden gem. Saban grabbed him!

Alabama isn't exactly a great gauge. They better do well getting the top athletes in the country. I like to see some team with our resources dominate on a consistent basis.

It will be interesting to see who applies. It's going to happen sooner than later and it's not going to be Key.

Let's forget about Fuentes (he's paid well and has a good gig. It's a lateral move at best), John Gruden, Bill Cowher (lol), Gene Chizik, and even Saban.

Key may be a goofball.

Help wanted: Need good coach with name and can take UCF to the next level CONSISTENTLY! Doesn't mean win every game, but it does mean DON'T LOSE TO FIU AT HOME OPENING NIGHT.

That loss tells me that we are rebuilding and not reloading. That's the hallmark of a mediocre program. If we were who we thought we were, our worst still should beat FIU's best at home on opening night. Unacceptable!

I want a guy who can give Dr. Hitt a road map on how he can take UCF to Boise St like status. Oleary was only able to give us a glimpse for a couple of years. But he can't build a consistent big time winner that can beat P5 programs which is what you have to do right now to be seriously considered for inclusion in the P5.

Coach Oleary doesn't utilize talent to make explosive plays. We spend a lot of time in fundamental football which is fine but he is too scared to play a dynamic style of offense. You need to win the game against FIU not treat the game as a learning lesson like we have to establish the run when we cleary we couldn't do so in the game. He rarely comes out and changes things to keep defenses off balance.

The staff has never delivered much recruited O-line talent. They aren't big enough, fast enough and nasty enough. Now I want deny the fact that we have developed some NFL talent but they didn't take off until their seniors year.

We have got to recruit Florida more and go after players that may even come from more difficult backgrounds. Every major program that's worth a crap has some bad apples that they baby sit. Olearys attitude on this is just not wanting to deal with kids he can't relate to or who don't meet this check list.

Some of the best talent to ever come through this program were brought here by coach Kelly. And many of those guys are from the South Florida area. We need another guy like Kelly who can get the players from FL. We aren't going to be very successful if we are getting talent from the State of Florida. That's what Dr Hitt needs to realize with Coach Oleary. He's not going to go after some kids cause you think they are bad apples? FSU, UF and UM has some bad apples every year. Last time I checked they have what is it like 12 national titles. No other state in the union can say that. All that talent is from Florida. Oleary needs to get relax his standards or move on so a more dynamic coach can take this program to the next level. The loss to FIU has signaled that he will not be able to take us to the next level.

I'm rooting for an upset over Stanford and SC but if he doesn't figure out real fast how to let the athletes on offense and defense make plays this will be his last season. Dr Hitt will be forced to make a big splash hire to keep us relevant for the P5 or Big 12.

Yes., South Florida recruiting had a lot to do with Kelly and its disappeared. Lots of the key players from the 2013 team were from there and at least 3 of the offensive lineman were from the Miami area not surprisingly and all were 310 lbs plus "maulers." They were good kids as well.

Add Miles Pace, JJ, Godfrey to that mix.

Now is especially the time to recruit down there since Miami is down.

FIU, FAU, and UF will grab them. Didn't UF hire a former Miami coach for that very reason?

Exactly. Good FIU teams should beat rebuilding UCF teams on their home field.

If people want someone to ignite the fanbase we have to go young and probably an offensive minded coach just to catch up to the area where UCF lags behind. In terms of UCF connections Godsey and Tim Beck would be the choices. Outside UCF all together, then someone like a Rhett Lashlee, Jake Spavital, Steve Spurrier Jr would all be intriguing.

Translation: Key will be our next HC.

At least now we are getting some

At least now we are hearing some names that are not way out there.

I've been asking about Beckton. I'd be curious of the current evaluation of him. I guess being an OC by now would help, but should he have been by now perhaps?
