I think we had a thread on this a while back, but I'm too lazy to search for it. I want to add whole-house audio to my home. I have an AV guy, but he flaked out after he gave me a Sonos speaker to try. I love it and would definitely consider filling my house with Sonos; but, are there better options out there? My goal is to have some sort of system that gets fed by the t.v. for when we're watching movies, but I also want the ability to listen to music (separately) in my home office, outside, kids' rooms, etc.

Is Alexa an option? If so, is the sound decent?

i just have a soundbar and wireless sub combo from polk. i dont really get into the whole house audio thing

Sonos with Alexa; you won't regret.
Pretend that I just crash landed onto Earth. How does Sonos with Alexa work? I haven't seen the need for a digital assistant to this point. Well, in fairness, although I'm certainly not opposed to new technologies, I just don't feel like I have the time to fully integrate everything that the Alexas of the world are capable of.

I have a soundbar w/ bluetooth in the bedroom and a two-zone receiver for my living room/porch area. It works well enough. I have volume I can turn up if i want to hear it elsewhere, such as the neighbor's house.

I actually bought a refurb Vizio soundbar off Amazon for like $80 and it sounds pretty damn good. It easily fills our downstairs.

My Samsung TV has a Spotify app that instantly links to my phone via Bluetooth.

Alexa recently integrated into Sonos so the speaker acts as an Amazon echo/dot but much better sound. I do not have the new speaker that has this functionality, but the old Play 1's and one Play 3 that is linked to Alexa. I added my Spotify as a music service for Alexa and just tell her to play a specific playlist or song on whatever Sonos device I want. Outside of that functionality, Sonos, in general, is pretty good sound quality coupled with great functionality (playing music in all rooms or different rooms) if you're into that kind of thing.
