I'm always looking for UCF memorabilia to add to the collection. Over the summer, I purchased this 1986 game program on eBay. Samford vs. UCF, Nov. 15, 1986 to be exact.
Here's a look at the schedule that season.
Look, someone who was also AD and head coach.
Rick Stockstill is currently the head coach at Middle Tennessee.
33-year-old Mike Kruczek.
Perry Moss died about a year ago. He was head coach for one season at FSU (1959) and Marshall (1968) and coached the Orlando Predators from 1991 to 1997.
Here's a young Alan Gooch.
This guy worked at UCF a long time.
Never heard of this place, seems like a cool place especially since they have the little football player graphic.
Player headshots were taken in front of Millican Hall.
"Best Pass of the Game"
Nothing quenches that thirst during the game like an ice cold Coca-Cola Classic pressed against your face.
On the depth chart, one of Samford's OL is Scott Fountain who later went on to become a UCF assistant coach in the early 2000s. He was 5-10, 215 pounds. For an OL. He's currently coaching at Auburn.
The cheerleading coach is Linda Labbe. You know her today as Linda Gooch.
He's kind of a big deal. In 2015 and 1986.
Great times at Church Street Station.
Manny!
Wayne Densch.
Some random ads. 25 cent drafts seems like a good deal.
In 1986, the play-by-play announcer was John Anthony. This was the precursor to 740 The Game - a news station. If memory serves, it was news during the morning and early afternoon and they had a sports show in the mid-to-late afternoons. Marc Daniels had that sports show beginning around 1989. At some point in the early to mid 1990s, 540 became an all-sports station (for the first time ever in the Orlando market). Eventually, the all-sports format and news talk formats (740 and 540) flip-flopped.
And the best part: The back cover features a Hooters ad, complete with a few assistant coaches and former assistant AD Art Zeleznik.
