Houston all but in

I expect everyone applying got a similar EMail. there is nothing there that even hints UH is in. My guess is UH is in the top 2 or 3, and we are in the top 3 to 6. I still am not convinced they add anyone in the end. My guess is they do and it will be only 2.

If they put off expansion this year, UH's chances go down. In fact, those members pushing for a delay may deliberately be doing so to wait out that political pressure from the Texas statehouse. Remember that 6 of the schools are NOT in the state of Texas and likely have no desire to make their conference become MORE Texas dominated and regionally narrow! Even the Texas schools see the mistake of taking Houston.

Gee, I read the article and decided that Houston's out of it completely. I mean, how dull and uninteresting an email can you write?

I think that analysis is as valid as this posting's title.

The Big12 waiting out political pressure from Texas:
Fortunately, their governor has little power and the state legislature only meets every OTHER year. Imagine what more damage those raving loonies could do if they met every year!

Nonsense. New Orangebloods article has a quote from a non-TX B12 school that Houston is a "non-starter." The same article also says that ESPN is highly likely to file a lawsuit to stop B12 expansion.

Heavens! Threat of a frivolous suit might delay any action.

I agree that the email does not expressly say that. I am willing to bet that Houston is in. Look, Texas wants Houston in. Therefore Houston gets in. It is that simple.

Texas is supporting Houston so Houston won't throw a hissy fit when UT attempts to open a side campus in the city of Houston. It's just good ole boy backwards Southwest Conference politics.

On what grounds would they file a lawsuit?

I guess the networks would argue that they assumed they would be paying for expansion additions from another P5 conference in case the Big12 was able to break off FSU or Notre Dame like in their dreams. Unless the language of the contract specified that it's hard to imagine they'd have any case. But they could use the threat of a dragged out expensive legal process as negotiating leverage to get the Big12 to the table and agree to a modest bump in revenue to stay at 10 instead of expanding and enforcing the more expensive expansion clause. Not hard to see the Big12 accepting that based on their proclivity for inaction: "you mean we don't have to do anything different or add anything and we get paid more right now? Future be damned, I'm in."

It's really beyond all odds that all the eunuchs could have gathered into just one conference. Amazing.

Here's a scary thought. The new Big12 TV contract was signed in September of 2012. UCF had accepted an offer to join the Big East a year prior to that, but was not an official member yet. It could be argued though that Cincy, UCONN, USF, and Temple were all AQ programs at that time. They would be classified the same as FSU or Clemson at the time of that contract.

Houston supporters think that having one QB with great speed will get them into a P5. Their QB is an anomaly. They don't grow that kind of athleticism on trees. Still have to see
it to believe it that Houston will get in
and BYU. Just not buying the hype.

If they wanted them both
and they were such shoe ins this process would be over already.

Bad time for UCF not to have a 10 win season and bad timing that USF doesn't have an on campus stadium and desirable campus location. But
I think the stadium thing is their biggest issue. However, still think
they would take USF with promise of on-campus stadium.
