We've had some good point guards at UCF, BJ being the last one. Since his last season, 2018-2019, we're into our 3rd season with disappointing PG play. It's not only unacceptable, but Coach Dawkins was also a guard and should recognize it's time for a change. Since 18-19, our point guard position has been handed to a transfer from another school. In 18-19, if I recall, Taylor was main man at PG, with Junior Terrell Allen backing him up. (Why Allen left, I don't know). Dazon Ingram (Alabama) and Darius Perry (Louisville) followed Taylor. Backups, I think, have been Tony Johnson and Darius Johnson.
Now I get that PG is an important, pivotal position. You want a floor leader who won't turn the ball over, find the open man, drive the lane, and, in my opinion, lastly score. If your scoring guards aren't getting the ball from the PG often enough, they're gonna start pointing fingers. Taking off balance hero shots to enhance your NBA value doesn't seem to be team play to me. Discounting or disregarding the younger PG prospects in favor of mediocre transfer sends a bad message.
So if I see this, why can't Johnny (who I admire) see this? At what point does he turn to home grown point guard talent? I know the backup quarterback is usually the most popular player, but he recruited Darius Johnson. At this point, start the freshman Johnson at PG. I'm done with Perry.
