How Tesla Will Change The World

Tesla has a long road ahead of it given how uneducated, short-sighted and fleeced by special interests Americans are, but I expect they'll be very successful in the long run. They're working on solving huge problems that are absolutely certain to occur over the long run, just need to survive past the current state of stupid we find ourself in today.

Didnt read, the first 10 paragraphs are about nothing. Have they turned a profit yet? I can't imagine investors are going to keep throwing money away.

I was never really a fan, but if The Wild Stalyns can change the world...

It'll be ok. We're getting closer to the point where all the old white men begin to die off and at that point we'll see quicker change. And like I always say, the psychedelic resurgence is going to speed things up. Have some faith.

There is little doubt electric cars are the future. Just how close is that future?? is the question. Secondly once they start becoming competitive, how long will it take to phase them in. My guess 10 to 15 years they will have an acceptable car, another 10 to 15 to have a truly working recharge network. and another 10 to 15 for the switch to happen. Will it matter for global warming if you swallow that one?? Not much with China building 6 coal plants every month. In the meantime, cars will steadily improve and run cleaner and leaner. When I bought my first car in 1973 I got 13 to 14 mph around town, and that car was considered fairly efficient. I now get that with my truck with 2500 lbs of stuff in the back, while my wife averages 34.

I think you underestimate the number of slightly less old white men in line behind them.

I think 10 to 15 is about right, but not because of charging, it will be battery supply limited. Tesla's giga-factory at full production will output about as much capacity as all battery plants combined today. That can support 250k cars a year. So you need many plants this size. So unless battery tech really impoves, such that the same weight of manufactured battery has 2 or 3 times the capacity, you can't really put a dent in worldwide car production. Charging infrastructure can improve almost overnight, because the power grid is already there.

In 10 to 15 they will have some cars that make sense for average people, It will take a few more years to convince many to cut the cord. Considering the lifespan of modern cars, It likely will be 30 to 40 years to get more electric than fossil fuel.

Wow, apparently you don't pay much attention to those in power. I think you're deluding yourself if you think women or other minorities do any different once they get power. Few actually do think of any real radical changes. They just use the same old methods to do their political bias.

The BBC radio channels have done some good programs on non-gas cars, and who knows who's going to win out. There are some interesting experiments to make the batteries out of cheap products (sand is one idea), but hydrogen is making real advancements too. I'd love an electric car, but not at those prices and only if they make it look like a real car and not like a pathetic eco-pansy mobile like the Leaf. A huge obstacle to electric is the lack of infrastructure to quick charge one on the road. The hydrogen cars are claiming faster "re-charge" or whatever they call it and are beginning to make a push to get them and the stations on the road in the UK soon. As for electric, they are already testing a public bus system in the UK where the busses never have to stop for a re-charge, and they seem to be very successful.
