Hypocrites

Nothing brings out more outrage, and no slander is more damning that hypocrisy. Why is that, and if it really is the worst thing a person can be guilty of then why does the term get thrown around so often?

A child molester is terrible, but if he has a history of advocating against it then he has reached a new level of terrible. The politician who advocates for charity but gives nothing from his own pocket is also terrible.

Just curious about people's feelings about this and why that feeling is so strong.

For me it’s an additional charge on your character but secondary to the original crime

It's because people in positions of power always know better than those they govern and/or judge and condemn but yet are often worse than those they condemn. It's a lot of the "Do as I say, not as I do" bullshit.
