I live in the Smoky Mountains and about an hour and half away from me is a place ,many here have likely visited, called Cases Cove. it's a limestone floor mountain valley trapped in time when folks lived and worked the land until the national park was purchased and they were forced out in 1934. Cases Cove community in 1934 was living like it was 1834.

I have been following this new green deal stuff. How California wants to outlaw the internal combustion engine . There is this desire to force cars to go electric . Yet the science says the car and trucks as we know it only account for maybe 7% of the carbon emissions. The core of our carbon is for electric power generation. It's not the car ,my boat ,jet airplanes or your weed eater. It's power plants . Weird how green some think electric cars when you factor in the battery and it's environmental impact and the source point power plant burning coal or gas or oil to charge said green car.

This lead me to think about how oil is the true resource taking us from living like it's 1834 to living like it's 2021. Oil my friends is why you live the life you lead. You car is made up of oil, your clothes are likely anywhere between 20% oil to 80% oil ,maybe 100%. The medical equipment that could save your life is oil. Your furniture and flooring, oil. Your pharmaceuticals, oil. Your computer with it's screen and semiconductors, oil. Oil is what changed the world and we are on this path to demonize it , stop it and get rid of it.

you know why we can feed the world? oil. You know why whales are hunted to extinction? oil.

I am not against green energy or cleaner ways of doing things. However, oil is the reason why we are modern. It's why we have what we have. I for one like my carbon fiber (oil) bicycles. I love my fiberglass boat, my graphite fishing rods and monofilament and braided fishing lines. I like the my son's wheel chair with carbon wheels and deniere nylon seats with water proof memory foam othopedic seat. All of this is oil.

I think we need to build more nuclear power plants to wean ourselves off of burning oil to conserving oil for all the life saving stuff and quality of life stuff it brings us.

I earned my degree in biology with an emphasis in conservation biology ,a minor in chemistry and my master's is environmental planning and resource management. I care about the world and being more conservation oriented. I just think our animosity towards oil and the myth the car and combustion engine is so terrible are misplaced.

I have no desire to live like the good people of Cades Cove . You know log cabins, with dirt floors and getting to town on a horse . Yet I think some in this country would have no issue forcing us all to return to that way of life .

I think 99% of people don’t understand that byproducts from oil are in most of the things that we use every day. Especially the great majority of the casual green movement supporters.

It's truly the difference between living in 1821 and 2021. We don't have many of the medical miracles without it nor the ability to produce so much food we can export it. The real issue they, meaning the greenies, is we simply cannot replaxe it yet. We can't put arbitrary date on it. You replace when you have a viable alternative. You push for that alternative in research and development now.

You mean Cades Cove? Oil as fuel is as you say only one piece of the puzzle. Plastics, Asphalt, Quality lubricant's, and most of the things we take for granted are oil based.
