I still think Cristobal has to be a top candidate

Don't underestimate the recruiting potential. He wouldn't be that expensive, although Alabama has the ability to give him a huge raise.

The guy is presently recruiting and coaching our weakest position and can recruit nationally and in South Florida. He is young as well.

Gameday coach??? Well he kicked our asses in 2011.

Let's grab him before someone else does.

I would simply like to know the story behind his firing at FIU. He could end up a great or bad choice for UCF.

No thank you. I'm not a fan of Cristobal. I'd be very disappointed if that is the best we could do. If he couldn't succeed at FIU what makes you think he can do it at UCF. I would like to see Collins as our head coach.

Geez, the things that 5-start recruit poster believe and say.... Smh.

Many Bama fans says he is their worst coach. That's not saying much, but there are tons of question marks and red flags around him.

Cristobal took over a program that was 5 years old and already facing NCAA sanctions. He was the 2nd head coach in their history. Got them over the sanctions and into their first bowl game. Got them to a second consecutive bowl game. Then he was fired one season later in what most considered a shocking decision by a rogue AD who thought he could get Butch Davis. Here's what was written of the decision when it was made:

FIU fired Cristobal on Wednesday, and it was unexpected, unfair and fraught with reckless impatience. Of course, by FIU we mean the school’s autocrat athletic director and one-man tempest, Pete Garcia, who evidently thought his program was above and beyond an off-year and should be on an uninterrupted beeline to a national championship.

FIU are 9-24 since Cristobal left.

The same Bama fans that poison trees??? Smh!

You have tons of question marks and red flags

I'm actually a Diamond Kniight but changed my e-mail address your heiress.

He took the assistant job at Bama over Miami bc he wanted to learn the organization part of running a Program from the best. He wants to coach in Florida. At the very least you know he'll bring in talent. Read that Bianchi piece on David Kelly, that is Cristobal on a smaller scale.

I lean Collins over Cristobal but I wouldn't hate this hire. There are risks of every option.

Sounds like you didn't watch the game...as FIU scored their 2 only TD's off just 1 offensive play (after Josh Robinson fumbled a punt inside the 8 yd line...and then Godfrey's worst decision in 2 years of playing...when he ran backwards in the closing seconds of the first half...which lead to FIU's easy fumble return for a TD on the last snap of the first half).

Sadly, 2 of UCF's best players made maybe their biggest bone headed plays ever during their UCF career...as that is what "kicked UCF's A$$ES" in that game.

FIU was still an infant sunbelt program playing with much less support and facilities.

They didn't become a D1 Program till 2005 and got moved up as an average IAA team. So when Cristobal took over that roster still had players that were recruited to an FCS Program.

Just about all media people in South Florida say that FIU was a mess and think Cristobal would be a good Head Coach his 2nd time around.

Actually, I was at the game. He didn't actually make all of the gameday decisions, actually kick our asses or play in the game. Geez dude, that's not the point of this post.

However, if you want to get technical, we made those "bone-headed" plays and his team didn't and they went toe to toe with us in run game and their lines outplayed us. Heck.., it's FIU. They shouldn't have been doing anything good against us back then. Maybe it was the coaching? Maybe not.

All this crap about a supposedly great game FIU had against us. OK I'll give you that, not true, but anyway he then went on to win an ever so exciting 3 games the next year. Shall we discuss those games? Hint: Hilton, aka the entire FIU team, graduated and Cristobal failed to recruit anyone good.

No educated decision on a hire will or should be based on any one game, good season, bad season, good player, etc.

However, the guy is a good candidate for many reasons and many experts like Mike Huguenin, etc. like him for UCF.

To completely dismiss any credible candidate to coach an 0-9 football team at this point is just foolish.

damn this board hates Cristobal[laughing]

He's so horrible that Nick Saban named him Assistant HC over Lane Kiffin who coached at 2 P5 Programs...

Cristobal is taking heat for getting fired at FIU. It is near impossible to win at FIU. They get like 3-4K a game.

I would rather have a guy that is already winning at a G5 with even less resources than UCF. Barbers, Brohm, and Campbell fit that mold. Let's just gut Bowling Green and take both their head coach and their AD.

Here is the Cristobal Resume:

APR scores:
969
951
932
919
954
926

SUNBELT Conference Record (These are games against fellow Sunbelt teams with worse resources and talent):
2007 1-6 (7th)
2008 3-4 (T-5th)
2009 3-5 (6th)
2010 6-2 (T-1st)
2011 5-3 (4th)
2012 2-6 (T-8th)

Recruiting:
2007 82nd
2008 91st
2009 80th
2010 95th
2011 92nd
2012 85th

Don't be fooled by the title: Assistant Head Coach. Alabama has like 6 of them. It doesn't mean you are their #2 coach. He is an Offensive Line Coach (not even a coordinator). And he, like all of the other coaches, are all recruiters (tough job there).

Dare I bring up FIU's lack of discipline on and off the field? Probations, academic fraud, on-field brawls, arrests, etc, etc.

We'll miss the boat and wind up with some cheap 60 year-old retread or someone completely unproven. Lot's of names mentioned, but are THEY interested and affordable?

how about at what age did they take the job

I don't think Butch Davis will work out as well for Miami as it did 15+ years ago

I agree with you Mike. We have to get that Miami pipeline back that David Kelly had! :)
