"USF or ECU would work out well."

USF would drag the big-12 down. Can you imagine Genshaft involved with the Big-12. Wouldn't work. ECU has hit their ceiling with no upward mobility. So, I think Cinci is a good fit with us. They get Ohio and Florida. Two of the biggest states for football.

Not to be picky but i'd rather get a team on the east coast vs another northern Midwest team. USF or ECU would work out well.

What would truly be icing on the cake of joining the Big 12 would be leaving both those FAR FAR behind, especially usf. Haven't the last few years been nice not having Marshall morons on the board?

I think Cincinnati is definitely going to be selected because of WVU. I just hope we're the 12th pick.
In the Big12 only WVU cares about what's good for WVU.
I could actually see Texas demanding UCF and USF be added, and both put in their division, guaranteeing a trip to FL every year to help Strong recruit.

From the AAC board....

Anyone and everyone in college sports is here. Lots of chatter coming from the party as TV execs and every power conference represented. Big 12 expansion is the big topic!

Terri Sloam from ATL Journal:
"Oklahoma and WVU are pushing hard for ECU and UCF. Schools want access to markets, want to be in states they aren't in. These two schools are viewed as sleeping giants and are limited to bring commuter schools like most other AAC teams. Lots of nodding heads agreeing from TV execs and SEC schools."

Also from Sam Pload of Biringham News: "We are here for an SEC party and everyone is talking Big 12. All the chatter is UCF and ECU to Big 12. Fan support and market seem to be driving the decisions. Several comments on USF and Houston but they have little fan support. Looks like this could in next week. Get ready Orlando and Greenville."

A lot of folks going to be pissed when this breaks. The hype of adding the state of Florida is overblown when it comes to Big 12.

LOL....state adding 800 residents per day with a better football program in a better market with higher average attendance in almost every season.

Yea, his delusions are strong. You can almost hear the desperation in Tiger_Pride76's posts.

Tiger-Pride76,

Even discounting all of the other stated advantages UCF has...If the B12 were to create a B12 network as part of their expansion plans (or anytime in the future), having Memphis instead of UCF would cause that B12 network to receive over $45.9 million LESS revenue per year.

I'd LIKE to tell you to go back to your own fan base........but then I remember how small it was playing in an old falling apart eyesore in a bad part of town.

Adding a Florida presence is the SMART thing to do.

Queue the ECU fans to come in and claim their TV market is all of NC, SC and Eastern VA all the way up through D.C.. [jumpingsmile]

Well, one thing you can't deny is the crowds ECU draws for football. If I recall correctly from past articles I've read, they only trail BYU in attendance among G5 schools.

Top 3 G5

BYU 57,141 (from BYU.edu) lowest since 1981
East Carolina 44,786
Central Florida 37,812

But you must remember ecu's fan base stretches worldwide. No school on earth has as many fans as ecu, including my niece- shame she couldn't go to a real university.

What the hell else is there to do in Greenville though? It's either go watch the Pirates lose or sit and wave at passing cars...

Ecu has a decent presence across eastern NC and even Charlotte. I wouldn't mind at all ecu and ucf getting an invite.

As long as UCF gets in, I would definitely support ECU more than USF.

North Carolina does have more TV households (3.8 Million) than Tennessee (2.5 Million). So from the perspective of generating income for a conference network, ECU might make more sense than Memphis. That's a difference of a little more than $15 million per year in revenue for any potential B12 network.

I wouldn't mind leaving all these old C-USA rivalries behind, should we go. Bring on bigger and better teams. It's like being forever connected with Marshall. There's just a great amount of pleasure being the small UCF 1-AA school that caught up and passed these guys far behind- leave Marshall, ECU and usf far far behind, with only usf being the team we continually play.

I've been assuming Cincy was a "definite", but finally got around to asking why? Other than potential TV and recruiting market of Ohio, does Cincy have a large fan base in Ohio? They've had the benefit of being BCS for 9 years and have they built on it at all? We had it for 1 year and already have a higher attendance, maybe the new stadium will help that out. Why would anyone assume they'd do any better in fan base if they got back to BCS/P5 status?

Just an outsider's perspective.

The Big XII is going to need to add two teams, and Cicny will be one of them. They close the gap between WVU and the rest of the conference, and have good standing in basketball and football.

USF is dead weight.
Memphis is...well, Memphis. Nothing to see here.
UCF gets the nod over ECU because of Florida and recruiting.

So, if the Big XII gets their isht together, they pickup Cincy and UCF. I'm no expert though; a few years ago I would have never guessed that the ACC would pick up my school(Louisville). I hope it works out for the Knights and the Bearcats; both programs deserve better than the AAC.

Louisville got mad about spending $ on sports. I remember reading that that was a big reason why the ACC was interested in Louisville- they got serious and spent more on sports than all but 3 or 4 of the current ACC teams. You came in with Cincy, right, and clearly outdistanced them by far.

It's July 1st. If we don't hear about a Big 12 invitation today, and no one else is invited, either . . . then what?

This isn't going to happen as fast as you guys would like and maybe not at all. Just because an AD says we need to expand ASAP doesn't make it reality, especially when you have other conference ADs(tcu's ad) and the commish telling people people to "chill out". Oklahoma may be unhappy and they may leave in a couple years because of it but it's not going to cause instant expansion in the next couple weeks

Well, you might wanna get your facts straight, OK's President said they needed to expand, not the AD. And when the #1/#2 school in the league says something you listen.

You won't hear anything today, It will be sometime next year at the soonest. My guess next year would be May or June. Though I still tend to think it will be a minimum of 2 years.

Okay. I've seen a few posters here suggest that an announcement could be made around July 1st since the new academic year starts on that date. That's why I put forth the question. The way things are going, I guess the fall of 2017 is going to be the soonest that we could end up playing in the Big 12 if we're invited.

You're right about my typo, I meant OU's president. It still doesn't change the facts, and you better be careful for what you wish for with Boren since his mouthpiece seems to be indicating that Houston is going to be Cincys partner.

Houston? Sounds stupid, how many Texas teams do they need to dilute the recruiting pool? And then ignore Florida? Could any conference be that stupid?

Probably.

I agree with you and don't want Houston in the slightest, but Dave Sittler is strongly suggesting that it would be Houston and Cincy. Sittler is a long time friend of Boren and his mouthpiece according to the OU guys. Take it for what it's worth...

UH has probably known this inside info for the past few months and using it on the recruiting trail helping to bring in all the local bigtime recruits.
