I'm surprised so many here are interesting in Collins, since we absolutely suck in recruiting. "Collins is the defensive coordinator at Florida and served as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator under O’Leary from 2008-2009 at UCF." We want more of that?

Everyone talks about how bad Chizik did when he was at Iowa State, but Rhoads took his recruits to back to back bowl games after.
This would be an under the radar very good hire. He immediately improved UNC's Defense and probably learned from mistakes while coaching in the toughest neighborhood in D1 Football(SEC West). It's all about being a good fit and he can recruit.
Yeah hiring based on age isn't illegal and immoral or anything.

I'm not hiring anyone. Since you're part of UCF administration and staff, you have to follow the rules of age discrimination. I'm just a five-star recruit.
He's probably going to be defensive coach of the year with his body of work at UNC this season. UCF's defense was top 25 back in '98 or '99 when he was here.*

How about Chizik as coach and Kruz as OC. That would be going back to old roots but sure would be interesting.
why does everyone assume a Defensive minded HC would continue the predictable 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense?
That is why we are very happy you are not in charge of hiring.
Because they are defensive minded. They are not Art Briiles, Tom Herman, etc. They don't have a resume of innovative offensive football and we don't have a budget to land an OC who is proven. We were lucky to get Taafe and now he retired.
When you're last in the FBS, it's time for a nearly complete offensive overhaul. Something quite drastic. Even though our defense isn't anything special either.

I've seen some articles about the prospect of Chizik becoming a HC in college football again. He has essentially said every decision he makes from now on will be a quality of life decision. The sense that I got is that he isn't going to go someplace he doesn't want to be just to use it as a stepping stone to get back into a major job like he had at Auburn. Considering his ties here, the opportunity to live and recruit in FL again, the reasonable expectations of the fanbase compared to some others (like Miami), and the possibility to be put in a position of great power and stability in this head coaching position -- If there's anyone out there with the potential to take over and set up another 10-15 year long regime I could see Chizik as that guy. Since Hitt is still ultimately in charge and he liked the arrangement with GOL, I wouldn't be shocked to see this happen. May not be the most imaginative or daring move, but I think it wouldn't be a major bust either.
the only thing that would worry me is that with a Championship already at Auburn if he will have an entitlement of feeling above the Program.

I disagree that he has to be offensive minded. However, I believe younger coaches have an edge when recruiting.
