What 5 things would you want (yes it's a holiday week and I am bored at work)?
My list (there are other obvious things I would want, but these 5 are somewhat feasible):
1) Either DJ or BW (in the immortal words of Patches O'Houlihan) takes the QB job and "humps it into submission". If we have a solid/stable QB, we win A LOT of games. If the QB situation is in flux, then the rest of this list is pointless.
2) Both UCF and Houston are undefeated when we play Nov 2nd. There are only 2 "marque" games that day FSU/UM (blah) and USC/Oregon (meh). Houston has a tough road but if they can beat OU in week 1, they could easily be undefeated. Houston would be ranked higher at the time of the game, but who cares. Most importantly, a top 15 matchup = College Gameday. Then Houston ends up with only 2 losses.
3) Both UCF and Memphis are undefeated in the AAC Championship game. We would host because we would be ranked higher (starting out that way and Memphis' schedule is pretty weak). Another top 15 matchup.
4) Stanford wins the Pac 12 with only 1 loss (to us of course).
5) Pitt plays in the ACC Championship game again with only 2 losses (PSU and us). Obviously I would want Pitt to win the ACC with only one loss, but them getting to the ACC Championship game with only 2 losses is more realisticish.
None of this will result in us getting into the playoffs, but could you imagine the debate, especially if Stanford makes the playoffs. I love watching the world burn (as it did after the 2017 season) and this (plus winning the Cotton Bowl) would nuke it.
