So Branson went near space ( depending on the definition ) in a rocket power glider a few months ago. Then Bezos used a capsule his company developed to go into sub orbital space soon afterward.
SpaceX, tonight, plans to send four private civilians ( no professional astronauts ) into orbit for three days.
It is a long time away, but on October 9th, SpaceX is planning to launch a Department of Defense payload on its Falcon Heavy rocket. The past three FH launches had the side boosters fly back to the Cape to land. This mission will launch directly to geosynchronous orbit, so the boosters will land on two drone ships in the ocean ( and the core will be expended ), so no sonic boom for us that day. I’ve seen no time estimate for this launch yet, but we do host ECU that day, so if we are lucky, we may be able to watch a rocket launch during tailgating or the game.
